#freewriting - The #gingerbread-man

"How much more", he asked.

His partner looked at the small, sealed bag he held in his hand and said: "If it has to do with this, 3 or 6...or who knows even more."

"How can you be sure?"

"I am not, just guessing, thinking out loud. We have these too, they are available in packages of 6 or 9. I bought them as a present for my mother. Look at this little fellow... do you remember him?"

"Should I?"
The inspector was not in the mood playing games. The fact 3 people been murdered within 36 hours time was already bad enough. Like usually the newspapers were not flattering if it came to him. The Telegraph wrote even an old, blind lady was smarter as he was. It felt as if the papers admired the killer. How come they did not care about those 3 poor people?

The victims seemed to have nothing in common with the exception of the cookie cutter that each of them had with them.
One hidden in the pocket of a coat, the second in a laptop bag and the third was held by a woman in her fist. It looked like a man.

"Do you remember the tale of the gingerbread man? He escaped from the oven, nobody could catch him, he was too fast...
Catch me!
Catch me if you can...
Run, run, as fast as you can,
You can't catch me...
I am the gingerbread man! his partner sang.
I think the murderer stands for then gingerbread man..."

"We better find that old lady that created him then. As soon as possible, otherwise the killing won't stop."

His partner didn't respond, he seemed deeply absorbed in thought.
"It is you", he finally said, "it is all about you. You better start digging in your past, your files and fast if you don't want the newspapers be right."
