The problem with dating the person who owns the business next door to yours is this: when she breaks up with you, and she is seeing someone new, and they walk past your shop window together - it hurts. Especially when it's right at the moment when you're serving Andy Delahunty - who knows both you and Elena, seeing you live in a small town, and so who looks at you with pity as you hand him his sausages and mince and $2.05 change.

She walks past you with this new vegan dickhead, and she's hanging off his arm like a limpet and tottering a bit in those stupidly high heels of hers.

You're obviously worth as little to her as a coat she unzips and takes off and hangs up on a coat hook. You retreat to the back room, away from the glare of the street, to finish cutting up the carcass. You are as dead to her as this slab right here hanging on this meat hook, and your blood runs cold through your veins.

This is my very first time taking part in @MarianneWest's daily #freewrite. And yea, it was very fun, though a tragic tale, and I did only go over the five minutes by a little bit (with extra for tidying up typos and finding an image to illustrate).

Today's prompt was hook.

I'd date that vegan!

Haha! Me too. The butcher is just sad and jealous :)

Fantastic! Love what you did with hook.

Thank you! It was a bit sad-sack but oh well :)

I think sad-sack is my cup of tea ;)

Hey nice use of figurative language! Also, I never realized mince was a real thing, but I'm still puzzled about what it is exactly.

Thank you very much. It's really cool to have hooked up with the freewrite community.

Mince is ground beef ... or pork or chicken or some other poor creature.
