Day 6: five minute freewrite - Yesterday

in #freewrite7 years ago (edited)

Thinking about yesterday took me back to Second Life, one of the many new exciting shiny things that I never got into. Apart from a nickname. Do you remember in Second Life you could choose any first name for your alter ego, but you had to choose from a list of last names? I scrolled back and forth through this list and finally chose Tomorrow. Shani Tomorrow.

I imagined a middle aged, respectable, woman superhero, who shopped in her local Co op, wrapped up in her sensible coat and carrying multiple shopping bags, even in the time before the 5p tax on supermarket plastic bags - a sort of provincial Midlands Hetty Wainthrop. I developed all kinds of graphic novel storylines for her, as she compared own brand baked beans against the market leader.

Friends took a slightly different view and invented a strapline: "shani tomorrow - never knowingly on time".

But I had another thought about yesterday - a reminder that time passes, a great comfort when coping with hurt or pain or grief or boredom or turmoil. It all passes and yesterday is the symbol of that.

Cool! Shani tomorrow :) And so true that yesterday helps us to remember that everything passes - move on.
