The old one
The old canoe was tied silently by the dock waiting for the first campers of summer to appear.
Quiet was the lake now but soon there would be people fishing, swimming playing games, sitting by the campfire singing about 600 bottles of beer on the wall.
The canoe had been at the campground for a long time and had seen its share of weather and activity.
If it could talk it would tell of the time Old man Crawford caught the record bass. It would tell of weddings, picnics and a variety of fun times.
It would tell of the time John Stanford Carved his initials in the bow. Those initials were worn like the old canoe but were still there.
It had been a good run and if the canoe could, it wouldn’t change a single thing.
This would be the last summer here for the weathered old canoe. It was aged beyond repair and the plans were to purchase a new replacement.
The canoe was unaware of this and enjoyed the slap, slap of waves against its sides.

There is enough metal there for that and some left over for a life raft.
Short but very lovely. You captured the contrast between bliss and impending fate very well <3 Love it !

Oh, this is BEAUTIFUL... I can just hear the song echoing and mingling with the water slapping against the side of the canoe, and it brought back memories of my childhood adventures -- BEAUTIFUL! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for reading. This is from recent memories of my own. Don't you love the sound of water slowly slapping against the side of something? Is the most relaxing sound. A canoe eould be a good place to nap if the bugs and sun weren't bad.

Why thank you. I started writing then forgot my prompt. Lol. Then hurried and put a referrence to the bottles. Almost failed my first free write
There is no failing a freewrite LOL. Even if you don't add the prompt - as long as your writing was inspired by it.
My writing was so inspired I almost forgot the prompt
