The Engine Sound (A Time Travel Story)
A follow up to:
The Baggie and the Shining Light to Make This Story A Little More Interesting
This is the current situation. I made 3 sets of sandwiches by accident. I would really like to eat them over 3 days. I want them to be fresh.
3 kind men in black suits, have offered to take them in their time machine. They will travel forward in time and put the fresh sandwiches in the fridge for me.
Not the sort of thing that happens everyday, but it would be nice to see if time travel really works.
I hear an engine sound. The 3 men in black suits disappear.
I kept one of them. There was no need for them to take the sandwich that I would be eating tomorrow.
The excitement will come in 24 hours time, when the men in black will have returned with one of my other sandwiches.
24 hours later
They haven't come yet, but I need to go to bed. With any luck, there will be a sandwich in the fridge waiting for me before I go to work tomorrow.
Does time travel really work?
Morning time
The first thing I do is walk to the fridge.
"Wow, they did it."
There is one of my sandwiches and a note.
"We did it. We traveled forward in time. Here is one of your sandwiches. Fresh."
There it was. A fresh sandwich. How brilliant. I hope they bring the other one tomorrow morning.
24 hours later
I get out of bed and go straight to the fridge. There it is. My other sandwich. Fresh. How brilliant.
They solved my problem I know that the time machine of the 3 men in black suits, works.
I thought that would be the end of the matter. However, that was not to be the case. There was a note in the fridge.
"Don't buy or make any lunch today. Wait for a delivery "
Around midday I got a call. There was a delivery in reception. I walked down to collect.
"Don't worry, it has been paid for," said the receptionist, Amal.
"Thank you," I replied. "I wonder what it is."
It is in a brown paper bag. On the packet, The Oggy Oggy Pasty Company, from the south west of England.
"A Cornish pasty. How brilliant. It is still warm."
I look at the packet again and I notice something which makes me chuckle.
"What's so funny?" asked Amal.
"Have a look at the best before date," I replied.
