Freewrite 104: Cigarettes
She was a nervous wreck. Her first day as a teacher. Her very first staff meeting. She was happy to have her space already, she sat at her desk familiarizing herself with her new role.
There was a confident knock in her classroom door and a lovely looking gentleman was standing there: “Does the new teacher smoke?” He asked with a smile.
She immediately felt relief and giddiness. “Cigarettes?” She responded as a question. Her eyes searching for the secret recognition that must be established before people are open with each other.
“Uh. Yeah. Sorry, I know it’s gross.” He mumbled to himself as he tripped out the door leaving it almost closed.
She was disgusted with herself. What had she been thinking? She was a teacher. At a school. She had to pass a drug test to be here. It had been the longest six weeks of her life.
Her thoughts were interrupted as another Not-as-handsome gentleman walked uninvitedly through her half-open door.
“That guys an asshole. Ima make fun of you for asking him about the cigarette’s later. Your radars WAY off. Or maybe you’re just desperate.” He laughed as he offered her a small treat. “Want a brownie?” He asked with with a twinkle in his eye and a smile you could see through his serious face.
“Some of us can’t get through the staff meetings without them.”

I loved this one! Poor teachers, sometimes I really feel sorry for them :)
Nicely written metzli, good job!
I can imagine the nerves and starting a new teaching job. And the preparation and having them for sure you were up for the job. Nice job!
Thank you! This one was not autobiographical.
I knew that! Good job writing the story!!
Hehe, the line about drugs and the longest 6 weeks of her life. Don't think they test for tabacco, unless she smokes the good green stuff ;)
Are your eyes searching for secret recognition?
😂😂
Yep.
When you walk down the street and suddenly your nose catches that aroma.
When you're at a party and you hear that click of a lighter.
When you're at a coffee shop and suddenly you here the 'm' word.
That may be me ;)
Hahaha :) This is my kinda interaction! I love this freewrite so much! And I'll take a brownie, too, while you're at it ;)
