Lace - (a 5 minutes freewrite)

That was the most beautiful thing ever! Nothing she'd ever worn before or since could compare to that black lace underwear she'd bought with the first money she'd ever won for the first night with the first man she'd ever loved.

She knew she looked beautiful and sexy - no need to look for confirmation in Steve's eyes. She'd kept it for years, although she never wore it again after she and Steve broke up. Even looking at the damn thing became painful so she hid it in the back of the drawer.
Threw it away when she moved in with George, bad memories erased by the absolute splendor of her white lace wedding gown. She was still beautiful and the dress complimented her figure, delicately hiding the small bump where Trisha was secretly growing inside her. No, Trisha was not a shameful secret to hide away, they just wanted to keep it a surprise till the wedding reception, where the news was greeted with the pop of champagne bottles.
The only thing to come even close to that black underwear was the pink lace dress Trisha wore at her christening. The night before she'd spent hours looking from the sleeping baby to the delicate dress, waiting on a hanger. She cried with joy that night. Her life was perfect, George was a good man and Steve but a distant memory. A bad memory, but too distant to matter anymore.
There were no more fancy outfits after that. Too busy, too worn out to care
Then this - this delicate piece of black silk trimmed with lace, so light and soft to the touch. They laid it over her wrinkled face with gentle hands. A thing of beauty she'll wear for all eternity.
