Hide Behind (Freewrite's Prompt: Mask)
They say, "Just be real, don't hide under a mask". The thing is, in our society now, if we are real, to just be who we are, will we still be accepted into a community?
Often, I heard people commenting they bump into friends who are faking the friendship for his or her benefit, but then how fake can a person be? I mean, for real, we all make friends for our own benefits too, don't we? None of us can ever be as real in front of others as we are real to ourselves when we cry at home.
We can't just cry like a baby in our workplace? Your employer might not like it because your slow down the company. We can't just get angry or show our frustration anywhere anyhow. We just have to put on the mask and be OKAY. At least you look okay.

I love this phrase. But it is not applicable everywhere. I have friends with depression and when they become who they really are - depressed in front of others - the next day suddenly it seems to be avoidance of contact from others. Because, truth to be told, not many know how and what to do. And to be save, they don't even dare to ask "how are you?".
Sadly, as a norm, people just find it hard to accept people as who they are.
Every one prefers to get near those with positive vibes. Those who are cheerful. Those who are successful. And this led us to believe we can only be accepted when we adorn ourselves likewise. And when we are thrown with question "how are you?", "I am fine" becomes the auto default answer - so that we are accepted and not excluded. But many are dying inside. With pain from the inside can't be shown. With confusion of their identity but can't be shared.
Those who need assistance in mental and emotional health. Those who have autism. Those with trauma. Those with depression. Those with suicidal tendency. Those who lost their loved ones and are still mourning after years. Those whom society called them as the stupid ones. They are all calling out for help.
Society has pushed them to wear a mask. In hope of they will somehow be accepted into a group of friends.
And I have a little hope, that at least, at least, home is where we can be real as ourselves. So that after all the crying or praying out loud, or sharing heart-to-heart with family, we become more secure and wholesome to face yet another challenging day.

You're right, people most times don't seem to understand, and why should they some would say. I've had severe depression for most of my life so I know how hard it can be, and the difficulties are as you've said. Sometimes it feels there is little to life but misery, and sometimes life is a joy, in between these two life is lived...
Depression indeed is real, as much as not many are willing to talk about it upfront, but it is real. Now with advancement of social media, thank God we can be more vulnerable or at least open and daring enough to share who we are or what we face. I hope you are better already. Hmmm, very thoughtful of you, a lot of people fake there identity, I think we all do, it's no ones fault and the fault is ours too for letting the norms affect out thinking.
Yes but I think the more accurate one is not even about real or fake. But that is the way of living now. We have to learn to adapt and fit in.
