Prayer (freewrite)

in #freewrite7 years ago

He prays that this is his last day, that the monsters will not get another day. Because if they do, then they will come and he knows as well as the next man, that he can't take another day with them. He is – he admits, in the quiet of his mind – at his breaking point and he very much fears that he's passed it, in fact, by quite a bit. He bites at the things he sees in the dark, although he knows they're not real.
He tries not to know, it's a bad omen, a remnant of his former self. But they're just delusions, just like any feeling that he thinks he feels is an illusion.
No.
He must not.
He bites his tongue and his head rolls backwards and forward as he tries to hold on to the memories of the days before.
Because he does remember – what went before will always be his. And there, in the darkness, amid the chains and the pain, he gathers something. He tugs at the broken corners of hope and allows it to overcome him like an invisible mantle.
They won't take this away from me, he thinks. Not this.
He licks the blood off his lips and smiles, as he knows that they will never take this from him. That his memories are his and that he can, indeed, go anywhere he likes with his mind. It's in his power. It has always been in his power and no matter how much they try to break him, no matter how much they try to stop his mind from wondering, it will.
It'll move onwards and forwards and discover new galaxies, even if his body is in chains. They'll never stop him –

And somewhere far away, his mind is still wondering when they find him. He's done it. He's thought himself out of the prison and now, he is finally free.

Talk about intense. OMG.
I heard stories of people surviving torture, imprisonment in wars and other horrible situations. I don't know if I had that strength.

I know! Me too....But I think that under such horrible stress, maybe the body is capable of incredible feats.
Thank you, Marianne!

Thank you for helping with the prompt delivery!!

My pleasure <3

Hes right. Memories are the last things they cant take from you

That and dreams/hope, I'd say ;)

OMG! I could feel his pain and suffering and it is amazing what your mind can do to keep you going through a horrifying experience. I loved this story! Tip!
