Weekend Freewrite Prompt: "Sizzle"

This prompt, "Sizzle," for some reason reminded me of the restaurant, Sizzler, where I have not been in ages,--yet, was a place, growing up, that was kind of a "special treat" for our family to go--namely because we didn't have a whole lotta cash growing up with three kids in the early nineties, so eating out was not too frequent of an endeavor. Anyway, as you'll see, this all has very little to do with today's bit-- Or does it??? ;)

"Sizzle(rs)"

It wasn't as if the church service was all that bad or anything. I even got to get up in front for a bit and play the bass guitar on "Trouble in My Way" and "Someone's Down in The Valley."

Yeah, it wasn't terrible--we were just hungry.

And we'd been that way for quite some time already.

We had left "the land" around 8:30 that morning, and were lucky to have gotten a biscuit as we ran out the door and into the church van.

See, we all knew: If Reverend Whitland had a bad night tonight at the Atlanta Service, we'd be coming back to "the land," lucky to even get any leftovers from the night before.

But if we had a good night...

Well--then we knew Reverend would take us all out: and we weren't talkin just any-old-where: we'd be goin to Sizzlers...

That's right: Sizzlers...

Seeing as we had been "tenants" of the Culloden Men's Reformatory for going on, oh, at least the past few months or so (even longer than that for some of the guys), a spread such as Sizzler's would certainly have been a treat.

The service ended, and all the men's eyes were stuck to the Reverend-- though his face turned away, as the final stanza of the choir rung out:

"Tryna come hooooommmmmeeee...."

But we could see the corner of Reverend Whitland's goofy grin turning upward as he spun around and sang:

"Tell 'em we're a comin, Stella! We've got some men here who are dyin for them some Sizzlers!!!!!!!"
