The negative effects passed unnoticed almost till the second generation. In the beginning, the Ooze was celebrated with joy as a new paradigm, the beginning of a new dawn for the entire globe. Notwithstanding the first overwhelming enthusiasm that was spreading and, as a matter of fact, consolidating through the most advanced countries, at about the same time all the researches converged on one conclusion: the Ooze was changing us, irreparably and not for the good. Now, the fact was that almost everyone, from the humble workers at the Moon's extraction fields, till the highest officers of the Federation, was by now deeply intoxicated and addicted. Oh yes, if you think about it, it had to come first or after, after the VR inoculation procedures, the genetic gambling houses, the spreading of the entertainment through vials, the sense deprivation chambers in every city, after all and all the shit that our derailed minds could give birth to.. The time had come for us to realise that we finally managed to fuck ourselves, no appeal, no turning back, no other satellite to colonise, nowhere to hide.
Official initiatives from the World Federation came and went one after the other, like the phases of a Freudian nightmare. Desperation, negation, mystification (at a point, by law, the intoxication had to be called "the progress" and the most addicted subjects were named "the elected"). In the end, all these pathetic attempts, a gross maquillage on a wrinkled prostitute, faded away without a noise in a puddle of Ooze.
