5 Minute Freewrite Day 495: Saxophone

The Bards from the Music Department had their own share of inventive. Sure, the most Sebastián saw of them were new ways to woo the ladies and gentlemans that caught their attention, and the poets and writers crafted the most exquisite verses since The Great Classics, but from time to time, something else showed itself as interesting.

He was again roaming the hallways after his extra class of Ancient Poetry, a little lost but not caring, when a new sound reached his ears. It was an air instrument, that much he could say, it was smooth and velvety, that was quite obvious, but it was also unknown. A mix of sonic enchantment and not having anything to do for the next hour, made him follow the sound, hoping that it wouldn’t end until he found it’s origin.

Then, just as the song and its new voice were fading away, he reached the half open door of a room that smelled of metal and some chemicals. Inside it, the was a woman, tanned skin and short hair with the slightly pointy ears of a half-elf. She was holding a weird instrument, a curved cylinder in the shape of the letter “J”, small opening for the mouth, and wide one for the air to come out, and many buttons.

She was surprised when noticing him, but pleased to hear her invention was liked, because yes, that weird contraption was a product of her designs. “Still needs some adjustments, but I think I’ll call it Saxophone” she said, and the explanation of what that name meant was left for another occasion, each of them had other classes to go. But Sebastian wondered “will this be the last time I discover someone with a new device by accident?”.
