Day 573: 5 Minute Freewrite: Thursday - Prompt: inbox
I used to be sillier than I am now.
Let me explain.
An "inbox" -- what is that, exactly?
It USED to be a place in an office where messages and communications were dropped off for a particular person -- used to have your name in a thin strip across the bottom or something like that. There was only so much space in it, and as much as I hated to confront it when it was full, at least there was an end to it, and File 13 to put the nonsense in.
Then, it morphed into this place that is no place ... email came and so the inbox became a collection of zeroes and ones holding an endless collection of zeroes and ones strung out across uncountable numbers of computers called servers, serving me an endless barrage of things people wanted me to see. No end to it! It just overwhelmed my soul until I realized...
Never fear anything you can turn off. I just turn off my computer and my phone, take a walk, and deal with my email inbox when I get ready, and just for as long as I want to. That "Delete All" button saves me a trip to the trash can, too.
So, we gave up finite amounts of nonsense in the old inboxes for the power to delete endless amounts of nonsense in a shorter period of time ... and turn the box off at will.
I think I've adjusted.
Never mind the hole in the window through which I heaved my computer. It was time for an upgrade anyway.
