Preservation Of Culture Was A Concern Even In Times Of Antiquity - Blockchain Coffee “Stone Rose”

in #freewrite5 years ago

The first thought that comes to mind when thinking of a “stone rose” is of the “Rosetta Stone”, not a stone rose at all but definitely a stone containing the rose to which we have deciphered the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic language.

The question I ask is why inscribe multiple languages onto a single stone? It has been the key to unlocking the knowledge within Egyptian hieroglyphs but what purpose would it hold within antiquity?

Seemingly a tough question to answer as the culture has long since disappeared leaving behind little evidence yet I believe we can get hints towards the answer when considering human nature and use of language today.

Naturally when a message is needing to be spread across our world of today we publish that message in as many languages as possible. Often with scientific journals the publications will be picked up and translated into each regions chosen language yet it is still not often we see multiple languages located together. When we do discover multiple languages used in a single location often that message is directed to the people with an understanding that we do not know what language will be predominant.

Human nature is to take something and make it our own and this brings me to the conclusion that the Rosetta Stone is not anything more than an attempt by ancient scholar(s) to do just that. If we consider the fact the message was transcribed into 3 separate languages then the conclusion of purpose is directed at function for the people.

Function of education but not education of other languages but education of the decree inscribed in the same way we translate important information of today into nearly every language possible. This hints to me that the Egyptian empire was vastly more diverse and multicultural than many have considered. Like a melting pot yet with an understanding of human nature to cling to what we know and desire of each culture to make it their own.

We consider many of these ruling cultures such as the Ancient Egyptians to be ruthless but the mere fact multiple languages have been proven to be used in spreading of their decrees says drastically otherwise. The decree was a message that needed to be heard by many yet we see multiple options given to the people which implies to me that preservation of culture was a concern even in these times of antiquity.

That's deep @d00k13, I didn't realize that "Rosetta Stone" was more than just a language learning software. My girlfriend bought it to try and learn Italian. Thanks for the lesson my man! 👍
