How Did It Evolve? - Blockchain Coffee “Hippo”
Now this is just a musing of mine as I have not researched this one at all!
I find the hippo to be a curious animal wondering to myself how did this creature become one of both land and water? What did it evolve from? Why are they so dang aggressive?
I see the hippo as the last of a once abundant giant species of rodent evolved to match the brutal predator environment. Needing a way of both avoiding land attacks and water attacks it became super aggressive as a way to ward the predators off.
Most likely starting as a smaller animal as almost all had done in the time of the dinosaurs and evolving into what we know today I dare say those tusks are almost a give away of their rodent ancestry.
As the environment changed we seen the reptiles shrink and the mammals grow as the balance between the dominant species of the area changed. Once ruled by giant crocs the hippo found refuge in the waters away from the more mobile land predators. Quickly they became the most aggressive in realizing the now smaller crocs reliance on stealth as a lone hunter the hippo found its strength in numbers!
The hippo is not a hunter but is the most dangerous of their area, only the extremely naïve or desperate will dare venture towards the ruckus of the hippo squad.
Humans and animals alike avoid them like the plague, wide berth, as I do believe their aggression to be the security of their survival it would also be the key element to their evolution!
