SUNSET (5-minute Freewrite)

Toothpaste foam flew from the boy's small mouth to the clean basin below. Fresh cold water swirled with light blue expectorant, and both were carried down the drain.

He watched as the boy cleaned his teeth. Then brushed his straight, thin, golden hair. Had the man's own hair ever been so light and thin? All he could recall were dark brown waves that puffed into a bush atop his crown.

The bright light of the bathroom flickered, and started to fade. The boy's playful eyes looked into the mirror at his father standing in the doorway. Light from the living room spilled around the tall man. A sillouhette blend of amber, chocolate, and darkness enveloped him.

Now the boy's eyes looked sad. The light faded faster. At once, the memory of that evening blinked out of existence altogether. It was replaced with the beeps and whirs of the man's life support machine. And those stopped at sunset.
