PUMPED (5-minute Freewrite)

"This is going to be the best haunted house we ever put on," said Alex, as his brother Horatio carried another skeleton into the darkened hallway.

"Yeah. And I can't wait to see Mary's face when she finds out how her boyfriend Vick took part!" Horatio sneered and walked back outside to gather more props.

"He's been such a jerk all year. I'm glad he's in the haunted house," Alex shouted after his brother. He lifted the limp skeleton onto a hook and pulled the cord to lift it into position high above the hallway floor.

Horatio heaved the old farmhouse pump along and left a line in the hallway where the pole dragged in the shag carpet. "Help me with this, Alex." Alex bent and lifted the pole. They carried the pump into the next room.

Inside, the room was well lit. In the center of the room sat the most death-like prop the brother's had ever acquired. They positioned the pump above the body and jammed it down into position.

Horatio poured a small cup full of red liquid into the top of the pump to get it primed. After several vigorous pumps on the handle, blood started to flow out of the spout.

The star quarterback, and biggest jerk of their high school, Vick Sanders lay below the pole and fed the prop an endless stream of realistic effects.
