The young man lifted and strained against the weight in his arms. Slumped over, wrapped in thick yellowed canvas, lay the dead girl's body. He hadn't known her. And to him that was just as well. He hated dispatching with someone he knew. But this had to be done.
The weighted metal door slid up, opening to reveal a dark chamber. The cold sides of the chamber were darkened with soot. The boy estimated an eon of years was charred into the chamber's walls. Feet first, he lifted the mass onto rollers, and with a heaving grunt slid her inside.
Proper dispatch. You couldn't allow bodies to pile up. The one solution was to process, memorialize, and dispatch. As the council ordered. And he was glad he didn't know this one. Before sewing her covering closed, he had peeked just a moment, but it was enough. Had they met in life, while she were still living, he was certain he would have loved her.

This was very intriguing in a very short period of time. So much story to tell, but limited by the five minutes. Who was the dead girl, the boy, the council? Why was she dead. What was going on that was causing so many to die, from the sounds of things? A plague? War? Something even more sinister?
The most intriguing part—that fact that he was sure he would have loved her in life.
I really like this. There's a lot packed in those paragraphs and a lot more that could be developed if you so desired. Well done.
My, what a sad story this is. Although a very clever use of the prompt. I wonder what it's like...dealing with all those dead bodies....Very interesting story!
