Medium X - 5 minute Freewrite

He punched in his password, as the retina scanner and voice recognition ran their algorithms. The tension in the room was coiled into a knot, as he reached the control room.

"Sir, we have tried sound, light, radio, Ultra High Frequency, Infrared. Nothing can get beyond it"

Washington DC could not communicate with the outside world, it was under attack. All media was playing out as normal, CNN, Fox and social media showed just another day in DC. The truth was unfathomable. All communication to the outside world was being mimmicked by bots, painting a storyscape of normality in the capital.. Whatever or whoever was behind this had compromised everything, except the White House mainframe. They had no way of knowing if it was just the White House, just DC that was affected? Had other cities been hit too? There was no way to know.

"What about the...other medium"

"Sir??"

"Medium X"

"Sir, that's classified level 9, we shou..."

"Quiet!! There's no time. General, I want a brief run down on Medium X, and I want it now!"

"Sir yes sir. Discovered by Nasa in July 1969 during the Apollo 11 mission to the moon. Medium X can travel at 950,000 km/s, which is more than 3 times the speed of light. It changes the molecular structure of all elements in its path, and has only been used once. As you know the Apollo 11 mission came days after the Russians had landed Vostok 14 on the moon. Medium X helped us to change that, and rewrite history. On ethical grounds it was never to be used again, unless..."

"Unless what General"

"Unless the attack is from beyond The Pale Blue dot"

"The Pale blue what?"

"Earth sir"

"Get the scientists down here, Medium X is our only hope now, I haven't told you everything..."

For those of you not familiar with the freewrite, you basically have 5 minutes to write a story, beginning to end. Then post it to your page.

Above is my attempt to tell a story in 5 minutes using the prompt "Medium"
