Freedom & Love: A Poem for Freedom Friday
Love flies through windows left open at night
Everyone says: be afraid!
Courage to let breeze through weakens
when hearts shrivel.
Two choices -
Nail planks over glass, or find the oil for the winding mechanism.
Children love blindly, some say
Stern words tell children: calm down !
Spinning tops joyfully whirl then still, gather dust
In lonely attics.
Love flies through doorways like a starling
Flutters into chamber walls
Flutters into aorta passageways
In glass lungs where breath is sharp with too-big gulps
Til the cry: No! You shouldn’t be here!
Those memories of pain!
Those old fears!
'It'll all be okay' he says.
The bird gently lands, takes up it's old residency
All those other things?
Just onion skins, now discarded.
I have a metaphor brewing for a while that you've re-stirred here. I haven't found it quite yet but I'm closer. In chinese medicine when they push an accupuncture point with a lot of pressure you can actually feel the qi pushing through your body, from your upper back to your hands, and from your lower back to your feet. It's different from hitting a nerve. It feels like a balloon is filling up and that balloon hasn't been filled up for a long time and so the flesh has tightened up around it. Though it hurts like hell, immediately afterwards you feel like a rotten vegetable that's somehow become fresh again, like you are five or ten years younger.
Your poem just made me think of that and like love is the same thing in our lives. It's supposed to be there but when we are not used to it we kind of adapt to a less than ideal situation and forget that there should be something beautiful flowing underneath.
What an amazing comparison and im thrilled your poem made me think of such things. I think all the beautiful human things are buried in us ALWAYS.... love, generosity, compassion. They just get covered up with crap.
Yes! There is nothing we need to discover, just uncover!
what a true poem

The process you went through to publish that poem itself is a metaphor about finding the love that lies in the deepest core of our being.... 😊🙏🏽❤️
Lovely! So well illustrated with wise words. Love is the opposite of fear, yet so often we are afraid of it. Time to let it soar free.
Oh how we have suffered by this love that we have been told about, this love that carries shame and feelings of unworthiness, This is not true love, true love is not to be told, it is all within and yes we need to set it free. Beautiful poem sister xxxxx
