Free Tools and Services for Online Anonymity & Security

in #freedom6 years ago (edited)

Online security has become immensely important these days. In an online ecosystem where almost all activity is being tracked, it is essential that people take measures to keep themselves anonymous online.

I am sharing below a list of tools/services I came across that are free and would help keep your online activity or data secure and help maintain anonymity:

If you have more free tool to share, feel free to share them in the comments below.

Telegram is not private by default, you may want to mention that. I would suggest Wickr, which has many more security features, and stronger encryption (same as Signal but also with perfect backwards secrecy) including the ability to delete your messages from other people's devices remotely at any time.

But the rest of your list is good! And even if I dont agree with Telegram 100%, it is 1000x better than facebook messenger, I think we can both agree on that! :)

Looking forward to more articles bro.

Thanks for the input. Wickr looks good!

You are welcome, I will follow and try to contribute! I am starting my own series on privacy in a day or two as well.

Greets! :)

@rjoshicool has set 0.100 STEEM bounty on this post! logo_for-light-bg_1000.png # What is a bounty exactly A bounty is money sent to a post to be distributed to the users commenting on it. It provides a way to reward users directly on top of the steem/sbd they get from the blockchain independently of SP. You create a bounty by sending any amount of sbd/steem to @steem-bounty together with a post-url in the memo. Users are then competing for the bounty by writing their answers to the post in comments hoping for upvotes from the community and especially the bounty creator. The money of the bounty gets distributed to all top level comments of the post at the same time when the post is paid out (7 Days after it was written). How much everyone gets depends on the votes the comments received. The sender of the bounties votes are weighted higher so that she decideds where 80% of the money goes and all other votes determine the rest. @steem-bounty does all of this for you automatically. You can use this service to automatically pay out a challenge, ask a hard question or simply to reward the people that interact with you. Read more about how it works, even in different languages here.

Thanks for the detailed explanation here. It looks good and would definitely be of great help to other community members.

Congratulations to the following winner(s) of the bounty!

  • @anarchistpreneur has earned 0.099 STEEM. 0.099 STEEM from the creator of the bounty and 0 STEEM from the community!

One practice of mine is to keep all email activity on my phone so an email is never opened on my home server.

Good work! Yes, compartmentalization is a great technique. If you want t go the extra mile you can also never use home wifi connection on your phone and stick only to 4G, but what you're doing is already light years ahead of the usual person who gives Google their real name and signs up for eveeything with Facebook Connect.

I definitely do not want to be tracked when I surf #dolphin #porn

Your threat level: high :P
