Reflections (Fox Tales Short Story Entry)

She stared into the mirror, her fingers brushing her cheeks.

Is this… me..?

The reflected hand moved with hers.

Who is...me..?

She struggled to pull the memory, to summon the face she thought she should see. Dark strands of escaping hair framed the blank, distant eyes meeting hers. Faint shadows shifted in the depths of iris, glimmers of something lost.

Her hand touched the cold glass.

I am...

Her lips moved, tracing the echo of words she couldn’t recall, the coattails of thought slipping through her grasping fingers.

There was something, something cracked and distorted, frozen behind a pane of frosted glass, teetering on the edge of her mind.

Holding her eyes, staring into the shrinking black abyss of her pupils, she tried to seize the memory. It was gone, it was all gone.

The doctor stood beyond the mirrored glass, a worn, middle aged woman ringing her hands beside him.

“As you can see Mrs Winters, your daughter is quite cured”

I have been having so much fun with this picture prompt, thank you so much to @vermillionfox for this great contest, having something to get going from makes it much easier to get writing.
