Travel Super Foods #1: Pomelo in Laos!

in #food7 years ago

Since beginning my one month stay in Laos, I've been enjoying the local super foods! Check out this behemoth of a citrus fruit. This is Pomelo it looks like a green bowling ball before the they take a knife to the very thick rind. Inside is a matrix of delicious oversized jewels filed with juice. They taste like a sweet grapefruit with a hint of orange. Pomelos are native to South East Asia and are very healthy!

I really enjoy pulling this giant orange a part and eating it one juicy chunk at a time. I've been buying them for 10,000 Lao Kip about $1.20 at various vendors around the country. One fruit weighs a couple pounds and it's good to snack on throughout the day. They give you a nice burst of energy while quenching your thirst; and they're tasty too!

This super food is definitely a gift from mother nature! It's a great source of fiber and helps promote good digestion. It's high in potassium which regulates blood pressure. It's a great source of vitamin C supporting the immune system. It has one special compound not found in hardly any other foods called Carnitine pamitoyl-transferase and aids in weight loss. Another Travel Super food you don't want to forget!
