Crab Foo Yong

in #food8 years ago

One of my favorite Chinese dishes comparable to an omelette. This dish is something that I look for whenever we visit Chinese restaurants. We visited one of the oldest restaurants in our small city. Let me show you today this special dish which I have been craving for days now.

The restaurant dates back from 1945 and I still recall how the place was small when I was young. The old place named Chefoo burned down maybe in the 80's and was reconstructed with this larger restaurant and re named The New Chefoo Restaurant. Thru the years the taste of some of the food has changed and new chefs replaced the old. There is also a story of the chef who left and started his own restaurant which has become popular in our city.

The place is still very much popular and a lot of customers during weekends. Celebrations like wedding receptions, baptismal celebration and birthdays are held here. The place does not look much but I guess they tried to maintain the ambiance of the old restaurant.

Since the restaurant is owned by a Chinese Filipino the dishes are a mixture of Filipino, Chinese, American and a bit of Spanish influence as well. We had two American bases here decades ago which explains the American dishes being offered on the menu. Here are some of the food on the menu which ranges from around $4.00 -$5.00. Quite affordable don't you think?

Let me know if something catches your eye on the menu and could give a little bit of information about the dish.

Here we go the food that I have been craving for the Crab Foo Yong which cost around almost $4.00 which is quite reasonable.

After the wait I got home with my Crab Foo Yong. An omelette with layers and mixed with onions, cabbage and crab. The sweet sauce is made of soy sauce, cornstarch and some other Chinese ingredients. This is just the usual ingredients of the dish I am just not sure about the other secret ingredients that they put in.

Best served with fried rice which they have a good selection like Yang Chow Fried rice. If you love omelettes you would definitely want to try this.

I often love trying out other food on the menu from restuarants aside from the specials. We would not know unless we try. That is what life is about don't you agree?

Thanks for joining me and I hope you enjoyed the food that I shared today.
