INDIAN SUPER FOOD: GHEE

in #food7 years ago

Hi Steemains,

This blog is about Indian super food that we have started ignoring thinking it will make us gain weight. Years back our ancestors ate the same food and were all healthy and never been obese, but the current generation have started ignoring those super foods like ghee, oil, banana and all other local foods and replaced it by extra virgin olive oil, rice bran oil, oats, berries etc.

Today I’m going to write about one of Indians most beneficiary food that is “GHEE” also called as Clarified Butter. Ghee that the weight loss industry, Dietitians ask to avoid it to lose weight and has made it as a weight gainer. A lot of people do not know the actual benefits of it and just follow the myth without doing any research over it.

Ghee is the concentrated reduce of pure fats that contains vitamins and fatty acids (both saturated & unsaturated). It is loaded with omega 3 and 9. I know it is hard to believe but the truth is that Ghee helps us reduce weight. At an average of three to four spoons of ghee daily can help us in lot of ways to have a healthy lifestyle. We all know anything in excess is harmful similarly with ghee.

Working out 1hour per day is not just enough, eating right also makes an enormous difference and eating ghee can just make the weight loss even easier because Ghee helps you melt the stubborn fat.

Benefits of Ghee:

  1. Used for lubrication of joints increasing flexibility.
  2. Used for glowing skin and has anti-ageing properties.
  3. Improves brain functioning.
  4. Mobilise stubborn fat.
  5. Boosts energy level.
  6. Improves digestion.
  7. Improves eye health.
  8. Improves sleep.
  9. Stabilises Blood Sugar level.

How to make Ghee from scratch:

  1. Boil the milk and start collecting the thick yellowish layer of fat that is on top and store it in a container (which is also called as Malai in Hindi).
  2. Once you have one bowl of Malai, you can use a hand blender to get butter from the Malai. Add moderate about of water to the Malai and blend it so that the butter gets extracted (If you do not have a blender you can just add the Malai+ Water in a bottle and shake the bottle well. Butter will be extracted).
  3. Place the extracted butter in a pan and heat it on high flame to melt the butter.
  4. Once the butter is melted, keep it on low flame and keep stirring the butter (Bubbles will be formed, and the butter will turn into golden colour.
  5. Off the flame and filter the ghee and store it in an air tight container.

I know it is easy to find organic ghee from a store in India but in abroad it is hard to find clarified butter/ghee. If you are unable to find this super food in your nearest store you can always buy unsalted butter and follow step 3 to step 5.

How to use Ghee:
• Ghee can be used on a toast
• Ghee can be served on rice
• Ghee can be used for tempering
• Ghee can be used to make sweets like Laddu
• Ghee can put on top of puranpoli/holige

So, replace your extra virgin olive oil by clarified butter and start a healthier diet and stay fit. Ghee not only has health benefits, it also makes you food tasty. So, once in a while deep fry those snakes using ghee and enjoy every bit of your food.

Eat healthy and live healthy.

See you Soon

Love from London 😊

My parents would be super proud of you reading this. They just need excuses to feed us ghee and no it's not that we don't eat it but yes in limited portions.

Lol Thanks. But yes, its the fact which a lot of people are not aware of. Who ever i use to say ghee is good in return they would ask what about weight gain.

That's also because we take easy way always. If ghee is important then working out enough to burn it is equally important.

Just 3 hours per week is more than enough to stay fit. And workout is essential even if you do not intake ghee.
