This is one of @mountainwashere's book reviews, on another thought-provoking topic. Should cultural histories only be told in the voices of people who lived daily with the conditions and problems they are writing about? Certainly, those people bring a unique and invaluable point of view, but should they dominate the discussion?
Those writers who define history shape our understanding of the past -- because we must rely on them so strongly. There are different arguments on the many facets of even this question, and as usual, @mountainwashere makes a strong, personal case for his point of view.
We need to be a part of each other’s stories in order to see each other as human.

@apanamamama spent a day at the local market. It reminds me of something called The Mercado here in New Mexico ... something like a vast indoor flea market where you can buy anything from houseplants to hairclips to clothing to toys to food. Ours is only open on week-ends, but it's a local legend. Come enjoy the ambiance in this post.
