Mamacita, a new mexican restaurant in the centre of Athens

Well, this is a new entry of mexican fooding in a spot of the city (Apollonos 9B, Athens) where all new restaurants seem to be opening. Just below Syntagma square and next to a new big hotel.

The rating and drinking was below average. And I explain myself.

Drinks, both the times I visited the place, arrived late..that is after you' ve been served half the dishes. Also, the first time probably they didn' t have napkins because we asked 3 or 4 times and never came to the table.

Now, the margarita, which in a mexican restaurant should be really good, unfortunately wasn't, because the quality of tequila was not premium. I had a virgin mochito both times which was ok..

The food: nachos weren't as fresh and tasty as you want them. We tasted one with no dips and one with chicken. The guacamole was good.

The salad was not mixed altogether with the sauce before serving. The taste was indifferent.

The chilli con carne was over cooked and over oilly. The side little phyllos were fried and fatty.

The meat was very good. This dish comprised of pork meat and potatoes. Unfortunately the potatoes were not hand made, which, in my country, is also worthy of judgement..

If you serve fried potatoes in a restaurant they'd better be hand made..

These tacos of various meats, veggies and sauces, were ok. The tortillas though were not home-made.

The fish ceviche needed some fine tuning..so we took it out of the glass onto a plate, further cut and enhanced it with lime.

Overall you may try Mamacita but don't expect to be fully satisfied. If I'd recommend? No, although it is highly advertised. The cost is about Euros 25 per person.

Don't worry, there are lots of places to visit once you are in Athens!
