Travels of I- Last Supper Argentina

Steak Anyone?

How do you spend your last night in a foreign country? Feasting like kings and queens of course. Our last supper in Argentina was spent at Cabaña Las Lilas which was recommended by some fellow Americans we ran into on the streets. This restaurant is located in Puerto Madero and has a magnificent view that overlooks the harbor.

We opted for inside seating because that was the first available, although they have a decorative patio equipped with heaters if it gets a little chilly. The ambiance of the restaurant is pleasant and posh. As soon as you walk in your nose is overwhelmed with wondrous aromas of meat and wine.

We were seated in the bar area until our table was ready. The bar had a speakeasy feel, and the drinks were of great quality. I ordered their sangria which was made with white wine instead of red. This was the best sangria I have ever tasted. It had the sweetness of a jolly rancher but with a distinct freshness, since it featured saccharine fruits such as pears, kiwis, strawberries, pineapples and apples

Once seated we were promptly brought a bread platter while we perused the menu. This was a lovely sample of what we could anticipate. The bread platter featured different jams, cheeses, and vegetables that had been sautéd to perfection.

There were also little balls of bread that were stuffed with cheese. Although temporarily satiated nothing could prepare our taste buds for what we about to indulge in. I ordered the Cabaña Las Lilas especial which was wheeled out to on a cart.

I now know why the Argentinians are regarded for their steaks. The steaks were absolutely delectable. However they breed or handled their cows was apparent through each succulent bite.

The meat was lightly seasoned. This steak came with scalloped potatoes, but I had also ordered a baked potato a la carte. All the sides come a la carte and are relatively inexpensive.

There were five of us total, and with the drinks and sides it ran about 50 dollars per person! Talk about a bang for your buck. Overall, this was a great experience. The wait staff was attentive, the food was amazing, and the price was exceptionally reasonable for the quality of steak you got.

There you have it. Buenos Aires at its finest. We will definitely return, but until then "don't cry for me Argentina."
