Kitchen Eggsperiment | Egg Curry

in #food5 years ago

My husband seem to be pushing my imagination to its limits when it comes to the food he lists on the weekly grocery. For last week, he wanted egg curry. I haven't heard about it from anywhere else so naturally, I went for a quick search and it turns out, it is indeed an already existing dish. And like any other dish, there are lots of different techniques on how to cook it.

I couldn't decide which recipe to follow and since I don't have a mental reference on how it tastes, I just imagined I'll be cooking chicken curry but instead of the chicken, I'll be cooking the eggs. It shouldn't be that difficult right? Although I must admit, my sister cooks the best chicken curry in town. I just don't tell her too often but I do request she cook it everytime I come by to visit.

Anyways, I decided I do a little bit of experiment for my egg curry. I went a bit experimenty on the ingredients.

Ingredients

5 pcs of hardboiled eggs
garlic cubed into small sizes
onion
garlic
bell pepper
tomato
curry powder
turmeric
heavy cream
salt and pepper
olive oil

Procedure

  1. Boil the eggs for 15 minutes. To make sure the shell can be easily peeled off, put the boiled eggs on iced water for 10-15 seconds.
  2. Once the egfs are boiled and peeled, fry them until they get a brownish and bubble-like appearance on their surface. Turn them over until you've fried all the sides evenly. Drain excess oil on paper towels. Set aside.
  3. On a pan, sautee onions and garlic first. Then add the ginger, bell pepper, and lastly the tomato. I'm not sure what I wanted to achieve with the tomato being added in here, I just saw one in the fridge and I thought I'd use it before it goes bad.
  4. Add in the cream. Mix it with all the ongredients thoroughly. Let it boil for a few minutes.
  5. Add the curry powder and mix it until the color changes. You can sprinkle a litlle bit of turmeric. At this point, you may add more spices like paprika or chilli powder but I have a toddler to feed so the chillis would be added upon serving instead.
  6. You may now add the fried hard boiled eggs. Just make it so the sauce covers the eggs entirely.

Well, I liked the outcome. The tomato did come out weird in the equation, my husband agreed but he still loved the eggsperiment.

I started watching Big Bang Theory and funny enough, the pilot episode mentioned something about curry being a natural laxative. What can I say, it's good for the health so let's all have curry!

Looks good! Maybe you can try adding paprika for some kick, I may just try experimenting it myself! My children love Japanese curry, and we have the mix that is without seasoning so I can have a say on how much seasoning we should take in the dish. The other day I tried cooking it with salmon and even added two pieces of kalamansi just for a twist and it was wonderful! Haha :)

My kid disagrees with paprika and 'round here, I'm just an order taker. Haha. But yeah, my serving defilinitely have some chillis. I think I'll try adding calamansi juicde. Or lemon juice maybe.

I love eggs, i love Big Bang Theory, this post is for me,lol. At some point i will try your recipe, i can imagine the compination of flavours and i am sure it will be very tasty. The tomato was not a good idea indeed, lol.

I think you would like the series, it has a unique sense of humor and is the only one i ve seen that did not loose quality through time. I saw all seasons.

Yeah, tomato had no business being in that curry. Lol

I love watching comedy. I've watched Friends and How I Met Your Mother. Big Bang Theory though is a whole new level of funny.

What in the world?! You lost me at frying boiled eggs... I have never heard of that!
This sounds like a cool experiment! Thanks for sharing your results, which DO look yummy!

haha. I have tried cooking egg adobo the last time (per my husband's request still). He really does push me to my limits, I now realize that. The eggs we had that time seemed a little smooth and boring so I thought I'd add some texture to it. LOL.
