Is cheese healthy?
There is no clear information about where was the very first slice of cheese produced, but its first attempts happened around 4000 and 6000 BC with the pressing and salting of curdled milk. Curdling milk in an animal's stomach made solid and better-textured curds, this first was more of a way of preservating the milk in a good state for a longer amount of time than a new kind of food trying to be invented.
Before trying to decipher if cheese or healthy or not we should have a clear view or the basic types of cheese that exists out there in the market, these are basically the 10 types of most common cheeses:
1- Cheddar
2- Emmental
3- Feta
4- Gouda
5- Manchego
6- Mozarella
7- Parmigiano- reggiano
8- Parmesan
9- Wensleydale
10- Taleggio
If the cheese is healthy or not will be relative to the type of cheese we are ingesting and the amount we are having, we will diferentiate from the most healhty type of cheese to the most guilty one.
Feta cheese number 3 on our list will be our most healthy option since this mediterranean cheese is made out of sheep's milk, goat's milk or a mix of both and for every 100 g it contains:
264 calories
21g of of fat
4g of carbs
14 g of protein
Our bad guy for the list is going to be contender number 8 parmsan cheese, lets take a look at some of its nutritional values:
for every 100g of parmesan cheese we will be having:
392 calories
25g of of fat
3g of carbs
35 g of protein
The problem with parmesan cheese is its high content in sodium with 1602 mg for every 100 g compared to 1116 mg of sodium, we can have 1/3 of our daily sodium allowance with only eating an ounce of it.
