Food porn in New York City!

in #food6 years ago (edited)

Good day, Steemit! It’s Friday and this was suppose to be a day off for me and @vermillionfox. Instead, we’ve been running all over Manhattan from the Lower East Side to Harlem, and back, and in a few minutes, BACK to Spanish Harlem for the night. I have a client in LA that’s hired me for an over the top jewelry shoot. She wanted a giant gothic cathedral, but since we’re shooting in LA, that kind of architecture doesn’t exist on the west side. She hired me to shoot a series of photos of Grace Church in lower Manhattan, and we’re going to “attempt” to composite a few of the photos we’re going to shoot in a few weeks in LA, in to these images shot today.

This trip has been trying on my patience. @vermillionfox and I have been getting in to squabbles, typically over dumb shit or miscommunications. We almost never fight. It’s been a stressor neither of us planned for. Maybe because this is more or less a work trip and I’m conditioned to get through these work trips without relaying plans to someone else. Maybe it’s the heat. Maybe it’s my feet […I have two blisters on each foot from miles of walking over the last four days]. All in all, there’s been one thing we’ve ultimately been on the same page about; the food.

@vermillionfox and I love good food. No where is the food better than on the east coast, and we seem to attract friends with similar culinary values. We met our friend Sunny and went to Chinatown for lunch at her favorite Vietnamese restaurant. The walk there, I was amazed by the markets of fresh fruits, vegetables, mushrooms and seafood just caught […there was even a crab or two trying to nip at me while taking photos]. It reminded me of @world-travel-pro’s blog posts through Asia, but this was right in lower Manhattan. We shared a delicious meal together. I had sweet and sour pork with spring rolls and lettuce.

I met a friend on the upper east side for pho, which was some of the best I’ve ever had. Lettuce and spring rolls has been a reoccurring theme on this trip as well. Later that night, Asian food again at a Tonkatsu place called Katsu-Hama, right below the apartment of the place we’re staying. This was exceptional! Fried pork chop and shredded beef over rice. There was so much thought and craftsmanship in the food, which was apparent from the first bite. We shared a bowl and ambled up the stairs with full bellies and fell asleep.

This morning, @vermillionfox and I ventured out to photograph Grace’s church […mentioned at the beginning of this blog]. We’re both notoriously bad at eating during the morning. It tends to be a rush of errands and plans, then inevitably crash around noon time. I called out our need to get breakfast. We passed up a Starbucks for a place called Fresh&Co. We ordered an egg white, spinach, white cheddar and bacon wrap on wheat with a fresh organic orange juice. @vermillionfox wasn’t in to it and was still being a brat […you can probably conclude the same by the photo], but I loved it.

We finished our shoot at Grace’s Church and made the arduous journey to Harlem to meet our friend, get the keys for where we’ll be staying tonight. Her ride picked her up for a burlesque performance tonight in Atlantic City, then we left for lunch. Patsy’s Pizzeria, for an authentic New York slice. Something I’ve been looking to get for days. The pizza in Minnesota is the worst I’ve ever had and I always find refuge in New York City pizza when I’m here. Sadly, there is no picture to share. It didn’t last that long. I’m sure I’ll be stopping by a Joe’s or Mike’s before I make my way back to Pennsylvania. I’ll take a photo then.

Thanks for reading. More from New York soon. I “should” be able to edit a few photos tonight and tomorrow. When I’m back in Pennsylvania for a few days, I’ll be able to get more photography related blogs up on Steemit. For more food, photography, and travel, follow me here @kommienezuspadt!

Mmm I love food porn.

Those prawns, I want!

I'm assuming those are salted dried fish. Have your family tried those and made things from them? Are they good?

It's hardly surprising @kommienezuspadt good food cures bad moods. I wish I could somehow teleport all of the food offerings in ur pics.

It looks like you're finding some good grub! I see you got flipped off in that last shot ;-)

As a great variety of food, I honestly have not tried any of those, I have not had the opportunity yet, but you can see that they are exotic and very tasty foods.

You have walked so much and keeping up with the situation can stress you a little, I feel it for your feet.
I think I had never read a food post of yours, after I finished reading I felt like eating a bit of everything, my food was not like yours! but I can not complain, I have eaten grill meat with chochino and spicy chorizo and salad! I remembered @customnature because he placed a publication a while back in Germany saying he did not like sausages and the whole publication was all about sausages.

Oh man, those dried fishes look awesome! I love such snacks! 😎
I'm waiting for more photos (not necessarily with fishes)! 😉

Its like very delicious and nice taste, thank you very much for your sharing to us valuable post, success always for you

It must be stressful to be with the time somewhat tight and to add more stressed to have blisters on the feet which makes annoying the fact of walking, however you can rest soon! At the moment you continue doing a great job in New York I hope to see more photos of your stay there when you have some time off

Are you still in NYC? I think your squabbles and arguments are from the NY vibe, lol. Its very busy, stressful and no matter what, everyone is in a hurry to get somewhere just to wait so it wears on you. I just moved from there to Socal last year to save my sanity, hahaha.

If you like spicy asian, you've got to go to Xi'an Famous Foods. There are a few locations by now, but the one under the Manhattan Bridge in chinatown feels the most authentic to me. They pull the noodles right there in front of you for each order.
