My City - Dewey's Bakery of Winston-Salem & National Ice Cream Day - Explore with J-VO

in #food7 years ago (edited)

Dewey's Moravian Bakery is the BEST Bakery Everrrr..or at least here.

I have a huge sweet tooth - and what a better way to spend the evening on National Ice Cream day than at your favorite bakery enjoying a free scoop on them for the special occasion! There was a crazy long line today in honor of the holiday and with Dewey's offering this free ice cream it brought everyone out of the wood works - lol!

While we wait in line we are able to look at the menu.. to help the line go faster they prefer you know what flavor and if you want a cup or cone. I am a cup girl and I already know which flavors I'm gonna try ;)

Here is the list closer up so you guys can see all the amazingness...

Dewey's has been open here in town since the 1930's. It was always known as a small, local Moravian bakery - known for their amazing cakes, creme horns, brownies, Moravian sugar cake and a variety of Moravian cookies.

They have tons of cute little things to purchase around the shop - mugs, wine glasses, cute napkins, aprons, cards, and other knick knacks. The way they organize and arrange everything is so whimsical - I love this store.

They have wine glasses now that are made out of that arctic thermos material - so it keeps your wine nice and chilled all day if you are out by the pool or beach - and it's not glass so you don't have to worry about dangerous accidents! I think I must go back and get some!

I definitely need these napkins.. lol!

And these Mermaid decorations!

They even have a collegiate section - ready with ECU gear for Moi! I will have to remember this and go back next time - those plates are too cute :)

Tonight we were there strictly for the ice cream. They have teamed up with Blue Ridge Ice Cream and have some amazing flavors! I honestly can't get just one (and because it's free its always pretty small) so I got one free scoop and one scoop to buy!

It was finally MY turn :D Look at all of those beautiful frozen creations... nom nom nom.

My favorite has always been the "Pink Lemonade Cake" - they take their pink lemonade cake squares and they chop them up and mix them into the ice cream - icing and all. It's amazing. I got a scoop of Red Velvet Cake that I purchased - same concept, they take their cake square and mix it into the ice cream. This was the first time I tried this flavor and it was SO good.

On the way out we got to watch someone preparing some cupcakes to fill their display shelves for tomorrow. There were so many people in line and so many more in line as we left - it was pretty crazy - but a lot of people came out to support National Ice Cream day :) It's really cool because if you get here early enough in the day, the bakers are icing and decorating cakes and you can watch them do that too!

They have lots of other goodies like these cheesecake squares that now come in a variety of flavors - similar to their cake flavors - Red Velvet, Pink Lemonade, Vanilla, Chocolate.. Creme horns are another favorite of many - and one of mine! They are so rich I can barely even eat more than a bite or two - they last a long time.

I hope you enjoyed visiting one of the oldest bakeries here in Winston. If you ever come to this part of North Carolina you definitely got to try them - if you go for the pastries try to get there early in the day that way you can ensure your purchases are super fresh - that is the best way to eat them!

As always, thank you for taking the time to read and look at my photographs of the evening! If you liked what you saw, please share this post with a re-steem, if you enjoyed traveling to the bakery with me, consider an upvote! If you would like to share your thoughts, please comment below :)

Cookies & Cream is my #1 FAVORITE if I am not at Dewey's btw - lol.. LOVE the breyers Cookies & Cream blasts.. so good ! Lots of BIG cookie bites :)

Thank you @spikykevin - its hard not to want Ice Cream in the heat like it is.. where abouts are you at? If you are ever in NC you should try Deweys! :)

Everybody likes a freebie, from Murphy to Manteo!

Yah know!?! I think so too :) Unless you are plagued by lactose intolerance (those poor unfortunate souls)

Well...we muddle thru. :(

OH NO! Are you Lactose Intolerant!? I'm sorry! Do they have some good alternatives for if you want something like ice cream that won't make you sick? I have a friend who is Gluten Intolerant but they have a lot of delicious gluten free things now.. so while it is crappy they still have some great alternatives that supplement their cravings for these types of things.

It just causes gas and stuff, not as bad as when I was a baby. I try not to have a lot of dairy, but I enjoy ice cream.

Well that is good :) I'm glad you can still enjoy it!

I miss blue bell Ice Cream. That's a staple down in Texas, but this ice cream looks almost just as good. Do they just sell ice cream in the store or can you buy cartons at the grocery store? Will have to keep an eye out next time I go shopping!

I have heard good things about Blue Bell Ice cream. Deweys teamed up with Blue Ridge Ice Cream - it is super creamy, smooth and silky. Its delicious - some of the best ice cream I have ever had to be honest. They sell it by the carton in the bakery, but so far it has not reached our grocery stores. :( If it ever does I will have to make a mental note to let you know and you will have to check it out. Its cool you are in Texas, My boyfriend and I have a buddy that lives down there - My dad was stationed there when he was in the Air Force. :)

I'm in Indiana now :(, but was born and raised a Texan!
