Talangka or kappi: edible mini crabs in the PhilippinessteemCreated with Sketch.

in #food7 years ago

Quite blurry as they refused to get cooked!

We bought these fresh from a street vendor that went around the neighbourhood. As these are small, compared to regular crabs, buyers usually buy a kilo or 2 for the whole family. In season, they can be so cheap like less than $2 per kilo.

Caught in fresh water, as well as in fish ponds, they're quite easy to "harvest". The female crabs have more yellow fats compared to males so they're more tasty. I have seen people not buying when mostly males as the meaty part aren't the favourite.

Cooking is quite easy where they're just put in a pan with some salt, and once they turned orange to red, et voila! All it takes is a minute or so.

This is just one variety of crabs in the Philippines, quite small but packed with a punch! Never underestimate the taste.

Mmmm.... Looks delicious! ☆☆☆☆☆😎

Lolsss it is to us..just dunno for you guys :)

I love crab......

If you're still in cebu..you should try this then :)

How big are these crabs? Like how many does it take to be full?

Encircle your mid finger to your thumb..more or less is the size. One can never be full unless eaten with rice dipped in soy sauce squeezed with lemon or lime.

That sounds so good right now. Do you know if they are "healthy"?

The seller usually shows the inside, the more yellow they are, the better. We don't buy if pale yellow, i don't know the exact word in English :)

Are you back in Philippines, miss imma? Those are good looking crabs and something to be craved for. I used to eat those until one day when I caught an allergy. I haven't eaten since. It's a bummer. But they say allergies are just a matter of getting used to so I might go back to eating some someday after consulting a doctor :)

Nope. I just saw this checking my last holiday pics back home :)
One of my nieces is allergic to it too :)

Ahh. Yeah, sharing those memories in to Steemit is a great way of reminiscing just like how journaling works :)
Seems that I could relate to his craving for food that he can't eat ^^

Hoping for you to come back soon!

Why? meron meet-up soon?

Wala po yata. Pero may isang taga ibang bansa si dawidrams na magkakaroon daw ng meet up somewhere in Manila. Meet up para sa crypto in general with emphasis on steemit.

You're not going?Punta ka. Syanga pala..where can you buy bitcoins in Pinas? A friend is asking.

I'm not sure if I'll go miss imma. I'll try. Andito naman daw siya for a month.

Yung alam ko lang ay via coins.ph. Una muna maglalagay ng PH money sa coins.ph wallet tapos icoconvert to Bitcoins.

I see..thot pag withdrawal lang. kei salamat :)

these crabs are going to be perfect cooking them with some coconut milk and spice!

they have been cooked like that but not in our province. Usually the big ones are cooked with coconut milk :)

They are really small crabs.

Yes but very tasty :)
