Staying In On Friday Night to Make Pizza

in #food7 years ago

Over time, Friday has evolved into our "Pizza Night"

This used to mean ordering from our local Pizza Hut, but after so many dissatisfying dinners, we decided to stop paying for an inferior product.

Our love for pizza still burned, but our desire to rely on pizzeria employees to make dinner had died.

To resolve the matter, @jschindler and I added some new items to our grocery list and got to work in the kitchen. Along the way, we discovered how much fun it is to work together making food we enjoy.

On a side note, the little "I ♥ Pizza" image at the start of this post represents my first real success using Inkscape to create a design element!

Some of the steps involved in creating my pizza design

I spent a few hours working on it after we ate and I'm quite satisfied with the results. As I build my Inkscape skillz, I plan on sharing many more endeavors here in the near future 😁

If you are interested in open-source software, @winstonalden posted recently about Krita (find his post here). He is also a Linux proponent and an excellent wordsmith.
If you haven't met him yet, consider checking him out!

yaaaas! Good for you! So much fun that you decided to take matters into your own hands and create the pizza you deserve!

Lol, thank you! I'm really looking forward to making another one this week 😋

Sticking it to the man, one pie at a time.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you a controversial question, do you like pineapple?

I'm not ashamed to admit that I love it on pizza. Salty/sweet all day for me. Though a dash of sriracha gives you that tang too.

YES! We've been buying a couple fresh pineapples a week all summer, not only for breakfast smoothies, but also for pizza! I made one starring pineapple and chicken last month, but I didn't take any pictures 😢.

Funny you mentioned sriracha, I was thinking about getting some next time at the store because I saw sriracha-infused ketchup advertised earlier today.

Friday can't get here fast enough. Me want more pi-zza!

ketchup + sriracha is a great combo! I do it all the time and chicken + pineapple pizza sounds amaaaazing!

When I first started on steemit I would post recipes occasionally...you're making me want to start doing that again haha

Yeah, seeing all of the serious food steemians can be intimidating! I like to look at my recipe posts as a personal food diary etched in the blockchain, one I can always look back at to confirm how much improvement I've made!

Since we've touched on pineapple, it's a good time to mention @jschindler has been saving the tops of all these store-bought pineapples from the summer. He's planted quite a few, but we still have so many years to wait for the first harvest 😡

I always wondered if that really worked.... Does a tree grow? Do you have any photos?

So far, this is all we've got. But these were from a few months ago in July. I think they just turn into a bigger version of what's in the ground, but I don't know for certain.

I just noticed your donation to @folderall - This is very much appreciated as the hosting does cost money. It will all be powered up and used to support those who decide to use folderall.net for posting.

The pizza looks great but Inkspace got me more interested, even if I'm hungry right now! Is this program for designing logos? My new project needs one and I'm looking for different programs to achieve it.

Glad to help support folderall.net. I appreciate your support of my pizza!

Inkscape is an open source vector graphics design program. It can be used to design all kinds of digital art. And, yes, logos and Inkscape are good together 😁

What I like about Inkscape is

  1. Cost effective - free (to download, use and distribute)
  2. Easy to learn - built-in tutorials, numerous 3rd-party tutorial videos, intuitive features, including keyboard shortcuts like crazy
  3. Powerful - import (raster) .bmg files; create (vector) .svg files

I have fiddled around with Inkscape a lot since I discovered it in college, but have only recently started to create more solid/cohesive work using it. Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to lend a hand. ☺

Pizza deserves all the support it can get. Specially as great as yours. Making your own is the step I've yet to have reached myself but I hope I get there :)

I'll definitely give Inkscape a try. I have this very simple idea for logo but even the simplest things can be hard when trying totally new things, I've found. I might get back to you on this subject when I get to try implementing it.

Okay, cool! I hope you enjoy Inkscape as much as I do, it opened my eyes to a new realm of possibility.

Thank you! It was a delicious pizza.

That's a nice looking homemade pizza.

We're lucky to have a few places around us that deliver, including a couple of independently owned restaurants. Pizza Hut and Dominoes are definitely at the bottom of our list. But there's no substitute for homemade.

We also get a quick fix by taking a tortilla, spreading some sauce and cheese and topping on, and throwing it in the over for ten minutes.

And thanks so much for the mentions! It means the world to me!

Ah, yes tortillas make great quick pizzas, as does pita bread. I am a pizza fanatic! When I was in high school I worked at a local independent pizzeria, and from my experience, making it at home is better by a long shot. Thanks for taking a minute to look at my post, I saw you had a plumbing adventure recently...

You're welcome 😊 I am thankful to share quality work from other Steemians because it helps us make a better platform!

I didn't receive a call as to when dinner was ready.😉 🍕 Brad, Caleb, Angie, Abby and I had Pizza Hut destroy our dinner last night. Lol. 🤣🤣🤣

They seem to be perfecting the art of destroying dinners across town!
