Home Food Away From Home
When we ran out of lunch options...
It was really quite an impromptu call. We were famished and did not want to eat at Jollibee again.
Despite the burning desert sun, we thought of walking to the Batangas Lomi Restaurant across the road. But across meant going up the food bridge, in the middle of the day at 50°C.
However, it also meant that we'll have these...
Tapsilog and Kalderetang Kambing baby!!!
Tapsilog is a culinary term that is a concoction of 3 dishes in this "oohh-lalah" kind of food. Tap- for tapa or cured beef. Si- stands for sinangag or fried rice, and log- for itlog or egg in English.
OK, our rice here was steamed, but who cares. Lol. Hmm, yeah. Now that made me think what happened to that rice. Why was it steamed instead of fried?!
On the side was picked papaya or "atchara" as what we locally call it.
We have been here a few times already, I even shared the experience on my blog here. However, we are yet to try the Kalderetang Kambing.
Kalderetang Kambing or goat meat (chevon) stew is a famous local dish in Batangas, my hometown. There are many ways to cook Kaldereta, but this one, no doubt is my favorite. And of course, best served with rice!
We finished the meal with our dessert, halo-halo, which I forgot to take a photo of. Haha. Halo-halo is mix of sweetened fruits like banana, purple yam jackfruit, beans, macapuno etc topped with ice shavings and finally evaporated milk.
Yummyyyy!
So yeah... This 👆 happens when we run out of lunch options. We end up eating more. Lol.
And frankly, I kinda love it when we run out if options. Nyahaha.
How about you? What's for lunch?

😋 yum, that looks delicious! I love exploring foods in other cultures.. I always have found that so much of the beauty of ones culture can be found in their food. So thanks so much for sharing this!
now I need to go find some food...
Hehe... I really enjoyed that lunch.
I agree, one of the best ways to know a culture is through their food. Filipino food is mostly with Spanish influence, a little bit of western and this and that... 😉
