The Great British Fry up.steemCreated with Sketch.

The Fry Up is an established part of British food. Growing up this was our Saturday dinner, unless Christmas fell on a Saturday you knew what you would be eating. These days we have it far less often and cooking in oil has replaced cooking with lard.

Now this one below is missing one of the essential parts of a good fry up. When getting the stuff for cooking it I somehow missed out on the sausage. My bad, the wife is disgusted in me and is muttering about not being able to get the staff. (My photo skills are also lacking today as well.)

So what you need:
Sausages. (plain pork ones or any other version you fancy, just remember to buy them.)
Eggs.
Bacon. (Back bacon or streeky bacon, smoked or unsmoked.)
Button mushrooms. (sliced in half.)
All these are shallow fried so you need at least 2 frying pans on the go. I fry the sausages in one pan and once they are cooked fry the mushrooms in it while in the other pan I cook the bacon first and then the eggs.

Also needed:
1 tin of chopped tomatoes.
1 tin of baked bean or spaggetti (I did spaggetti today.) or both depending on how you feel.
(These are just chucked in a bowl and warmed up in the microwave because it's easier.)

Extra things you can have are:
Black Pudding or blood pudding. (Same thing, different names.)
Fried Bread. (Take a slice of bread, cut it in half and shallow fry it until it browns. Do this before the rest and leave on a plate to get crunchy as it cools.)
Hash Browns. (This is a recent addition and not really part of a traditional British Fry Up.)
Tomato ketchup or Brown sauce.

This food isn't classed as healthy but it's tasty. You can make it a bit more healthy by grilling the sausage and bacon and having the eggs poached or scrambled but in moderation it's not going to hurt to fry it all.

(The wife is still grumbling about the forgotten sausage, only been 30 minutes she's been going on.)

There you go then, the fry up, as British as Fish and Chips.

Just in case there are people unfamiliar with this piece of classic British comedy

Go back to lard. It's much healthier AND much nicer.
Love black pudding, but I can't handle the gluten in the barley sadly.
I'll have to have just the eggs, bacon, grain free sausages, maybe a beefsteak tomato cut in half and fried in butter (maybe that's the NZ version) and a hash brown. I could fry up some of my own bread too. Mmm...

I can't stand black pudding, it's one of those things I've never liked.

Call yourself an Englishman?
Me mam was from Yorkshire (till she was 13) so maybe the liking for a greasy fry up and a luscious slab of black pudding is in my DNA.

Not just an Englishman but a Yorkshire man....
The shame I bring on myself for not liking black pudding.

How can you hold your head up, let alone admit it in public?

And I bet you don't even "live int shoebox int middle o road".

Such luxury...
Growing up we dreamed of having a shoebox to live in.

(I have to reply here cos we ran out of space)
Try telling that to young people of today and they won't believe you!

You do realise that now I'm going to spend the entire morning watching Monty Python on youtube.
Look what you've done ;)

hehe, And this my friend is the reason we have so many famous British restaurants around the world :)

We can do fine dining. You should check out pigs trotters or pig chip.

Yes I know, I was just picking on ya.

Being from Texas I will say I was well fed when I was there and I fell in love with real beer, we don't have real beer here :(

Steem on my friend... Cheers!!
