Sunflower(해바라기)는 국화과에 속하는 꽃으로, 미국의 명판화가인 빈센트 반 고흐의 작품에서 유명한 꽃입니다.
Sunflower는 태양을 향해 성장하며, 태양의 위치에 따라 꽃잎의 방향이 변합니다. 이는 광합성을 위한 광합성기관이 태양을 향해 최적의 각도로 노출되도록 하기 위한 전략입니다.
해바라기는 씨앗이 많아 기름과 동물 사료 등으로 이용되며, 또한 꽃말로는 "충성심"을 상징합니다.
Sunflower는 미국의 4개 주 중 하나인 칸자스 주의 국화이며, 이를 기념하여 매년 9월 마지막 주일은 "국화의 날"로 지정되어 있습니다.
