Gap Theory | Pt. 3 - Mind The Gap(s) & Follow Them

Ever since I stumbled upon these gaps that seemed to be cosmic invitations to new experiences I started wondering: Where could this go? How far can I take it? And most of all: How do I get past those instances where I can't find the strength to say "yes" even when I know it would be for my best?

I feel following the gaps is somewhat of a cosmic ladder simply because I have encountered them so many times in all varieties and experimented A LOT with them. Not only with types of gaps and situations that were different than the ones before but also with the way I approached them, answered them, the way I behaved and what came out of it.

There were times where magical spots opened up on the floor but I didn't dare to say yes. Kinda like being stuck in shyness at a party when you're an adolescent - it becomes easier talking to people after you already have. The first interaction is often the hardest.

And so I have been stuck at "level 1" many many times, often feeling regret afterwards for not having taken a chance to get the ball rolling.

But then (with the first proofs that this thing always works out one way or another) I got more and more into the habit of following the gaps. Saying yes. Not only once but many many times in a row. Often as many times as I could ; not being clingy and hopping from gap to gap like running a marathon mind you, but consciously following them whenever a new one opened up and seemed to call my name after the old one had given what it had to show me see Pt. 2 - What Is Gap Theory & How Does It Work?

The more I said "yes" and followed the gaps the more cosmic my experience became. I found myself with more and more resonant people in a previously invisible and unrecognized corner of the dancefloor. I met some awesome friends for life this way, and more than once did I meet a spiritual teacher of such high caliber that we were both a little surprised by it. Ahahahahaha.

I met some lovely women this way, I even met people I revere for their music and for what they have done for my path. And always there is this thinking-back to my earlier position, remembering how uneasy I felt there and how much I wanted to move on before the gap actually opened up for me and I dared to accept the invitation.

In a way this reminds me of Alice in Wonderland's idea of following the white rabbit. It's just much more actual and concrete than I ever thought. There might not be a white rabbit on the floor, but the gaps that open up inviting me to reveal the next level(s) of the rabbit hole are just as profound in my book ;)

After following the gap for a good two dozen times or so over the course of an entire afternoon well into dusk I was certain I was having the best day of my life. No kidding. Everything was just so incredibly awesome, ahahahaha! And it got better and better yet. It was literally breathtaking to ponder how far this might actually go. It felt this energy charged superhighway of spiritual development was something immensely useful and that any roadblock encountered would ultimately be the best candidates to work on in my daily life, to learn why I couldn't say "yes" that time and what prevented me from doing so. Getting ever closer to my inner core of self.

In this way gap theory can be a marvellous spiritual tool to uncover underlying fears, self-doubts and blockages to our own self-realization so that we may become the best version of ourselves we can hope to be.

And go beyond.
