More high protein foods for your fridge

in #fitness4 years ago

For most people, weight loss is more about what you put in the tank vs. how fast your drive the car (your body.) Many people seem to think that as long as they exercise a lot, they can keep their horrible diet habits and this will somehow work out in the end. While it is better to exercise a lot no matter what, weight loss is very unlikely to happen unless some dietary changes are made. It all depends on how horrible your current diet is really.

For many people, introducing a protein-heavy diet that is as light on carbohydrates as possible, is a sure-fire way to make this happen. Many people are unaware of what foods actually are high in protein and although meat is generally very high in protein, there are other options.

Milk

Milk has a lot of things in it that your body needs and one of the best things is that it is over 20% protein. Some people out there really don't like milk or are vegans, and for these folks soy milk is a good alternative although it does have slightly less protein. Almond milk is really high in protein as well but it was recently pointed out to me that it takes a huge amount of fresh water in order to create almond milk and therefore I tend to stay away from it because of this reason...well that and the fact that I think it tastes "funny."

Broccoli

As a kid I hated broccoli but I think this is normal and I actually quite like it these days. As a green vegetable, broccoli is really good for you and it packs over 30% of the calories in the form of protein. Of course you have to eat a lot of it if you are trying to bulk up in muscle but it is extremely low in calories just like most vegetables so you can pretty much eat as much of it as you want. If you think it tastes bland you can just smother it in cheese or ranch dressing :P

Tuna

Tuna is the secret weapon of people trying to lose weight and also get a lot of protein in their diet. Mostly people think of beef or chicken and what not and they would be correct in those being high in protein. But did you know that tuna has 84% of its calories in the form of protein? One can of the stuff has around 27 grams of protein in it and a mere 130 calories. With all the different varieties of tuna on the market there are a lot of things that you can do with it as well. Keep in mind that if the tuna is flavored, such as the one pictured above, it could contain a bunch of carbs in the sauce, so be careful as far as that is concerned.

Basically, protein is the way to go for many people seeking to lose weight. For reasons that I no longer remember but definitely encountered myself, protein keeps you feeling full longer than carbs and this discourages compulsive snacking.

I mention ranch dressing and cheese above, which in my normie diet was something I didn't pay any attention to even though both of them are very high in fat. This didn't concern me because I have no underlying health issues and I also exercise. Fat can bring a bunch of other medical issues onto people of different types, so it is important for you to consider these factors for yourself as well - probably through a doctor. However, if you are an otherwise healthy person who just let their weight get a bit out of control, I believe from the results that I have personally seen, that fat isn't nearly as big a problem as carbs are.

well i love milk and have always been told that it is good for me.... so this is great news.

if someone isn't lactose intolerant and doesn't like milk I have a hard time relating to that person. 😄

oh and be careful of the sweetened milk - which i think is nasty anyway. Regular 2% or full milk is just fine.
