Movement May!

Hello hello hello hello!

This is very much a work in progress, so please excuse the lack of headers and graphics and all round radness.

A few of us want to start a bit of a Motivational Movement Monthly Mob, where we have running or cycling or swimming or walking or whatever targets that we try and achieve in a month, and the month of May seems like a good one.

I'll create a weekly post to check in, and a couple of us might get fancy with arts or bots or websites, but for the moment, please let me know in the comments below if you're interested in joining. If you create your own post, please link it in the comments and I'll add it to this post so that we can all support each other.

Obviously we'll have a range of fitness levels, so I thought I'd break it up into teams.

Team Red will pledge to move at least 50 kilometers (31 miles) in the month of May 2018.
Team Blue will pledge to move at least 100 kilometers (62 miles) in the month of May 2018.
Team Yellow will pledge to move at least 150 kilometers (93 miles) in the month of May 2018.
Team Green will pledge to move at least 200 kilometers (124 miles) in the month of May 2018.

I'm not sure if these distances are ridiculous or achievable, so feel free to nominate a distance that's challenging for you. We can have as many goals as we need.

We're also totally open to cycling, swimming, walking, etc etc... so if that's what you're excited about, let us know in the comments below, and we'll work it all out.

I’m only going to count cycling and running.

This is a scary commitment. I’ve lost all my fitness, but this should hopefully give me a target.

Okay, I am tagging a few more and pressing on those I already tagged. I need to know more people are going to sweat along with me this month. I've only managed a sluggish 5km out of 200km...

@supersoju - remember being 'super' has responsibilities and expectations to be met... like the 50 x 1km kind. :P

@jackmiller - you know resteem is the same as saying "I do!" or "I will do!". This means you had better nominate a team or you will NEVER escape the Linny Cyclone. I will chase you down until you're ragged with regret for not doing the challenge.

Or maybe I see the problem. This challenge is not hard enough for you. You need a Rucksack?! I'm sure @aussieninja meant rucking is included and all your vet friends can feel quite at home...complaining about knee problems and etc...

@ryivhnn - I've been thinking hard on your problem. As I was thinking on the problem for Bane-wannabe-muscle-head @hispeedimagins - he apparently only does weights stuff. So here is my solution (drumroll)...

You guys can do LUNGES! Just measure out the longest distance you can lunge comfortably and you guys can then count the reps. I'd highly suggest the TEAM RED, this could take a while.

@thinknzombie ... I hope you're still planning to prove to the world that zombies are not only the corpsey types that walk lopsided moaning and groaning... That you're going to do zombie run training

@anikekirsten read jackmiller's warning. I can be a terror. Also, caught your art prompt, I shall be checking it out this weekend. :)

@stormykar - I know you're not going to get this until I send you the link. But DO THIS, you're a Boston Marathon qualifier!!! <3 x 1 million.

@marillaanne - you expressed an interest a while ago. :)

Anyway, I am joking. I would love for you all to have a go but I get it life is busy. But...get moving people!!!

Also, since supersoju is actually my cat's name, if I make her run the km, will that count? lol
She goes crazy a couple times a day where she runs like crazy. I'm sure she could run the 1km per day. Maybe more if I bring out the laser for her to chase.

Ok I'll go for team pink since I have no idea how much movement is involved in yard work which is what I've been loving since the rain and winter have finally let up! I've also been walking my drive and sometimes the hay fields but they're going to be impossible very soon.
Ummm my drive way is a hill. It counts some.

Team Pink - 25km because it's half red? That's where I was thinking, as I'm not sure a km/day is something I can actually do, but it is a target.

Linny, I can do front splits (though I'm a lot worse on my bad leg than I used to be XD).

As I just told Ninj, I can probably do 50km in a month (I usually do 1-2km walks with the dogs, sometimes longer, depending on what else is going on) but if I commit to anything else right now something will probably snap and it won't be pretty XD

Yay!! I didn’t see your name on the list. But I expect you to update us at some point. Also, did you guys decide on any fitmon? Even if you want to do a mascot, I’ll include it in my post and shower it with love.

@whatamidoing you wanna try too? I think you might know Ryi, since I first noticed you through her resteem. Ryi, I’ve decided whatamidoing is my Steemit therapist. Anyway, that’s what we all need in this Steemit self reflection, a long walk or run to recharge. Just make it add up to 50, 100, 150 or 200 km. ;)

Only if they're 100m sprints! XD In fairness I could probably do 50km in a month with a bit of effort, but it I commit to any more things right now I will probably have some kind of meltdown if not breakdown XD

Of course it does, just make it count up to 50km. So add some extra laps after drop off and before pickup. ;)

Hi there. I see you're the serious runner type!! My friend @stormykar is a crazy runner and recently qualified for the Boston Marathon and she's an inspiring lady. She might join this, I'm not sure. She mentioned having an easier month. :)

It was a real pleasure to meet you @aussieninja! You're one of the smartest guys I've met! I might run a couple of dozens of Km during this month. We'll see!

It was a huge pleasure to have you visit... especially since it's your first trip to the US in such a long time! Haha, I was going to say you were the smartest dude I've met in ages... the juice bar interview questions still make me laugh when I think about it, I can't wait to see that video! Also, your enthusiastic approach to brand new things is awesome! I need to be way more like that.

So, I wanted to ask you if you wanted to join this, especially after hearing how well you did in your marathon, but I thought maybe you might not have time once you're on your roadtrip. What about if I put you in Team Red? See if have time to run 31 miles during your travels.

Why is no one on your team? I've already run 10.6km just in crossfit this month, so you can take that if you like.

I should find out who's bike it is out the back here and see if I can borrow it. Much easier to get distance in on a bike than walking!

Absolutely, I walk about 5 - 10km per day but that's for work rather than specifically for fitness.

Also, it looks like crappy weather this weekend. I hope the rain holds off for long enough so that I can get some km in.

You're in Melbourne, isn't that normal weather? :P

I count all 'stretches of just walking' as walking for fitness. So walking back and forth to the kitchen, or wandering around the shops aren't counted, but walking to the shops would be, even though it's not necessarily just for fitness, but also to get to the shops.

I'll ask who's it is, since it seems to be moved enough recently that it's actually used. Not great to go out and find your transportation missing!

That is a valid point re the bike. And it’s also not great to be accused of stealing. :P

Yeah, that too. I know which housemate owns it now, but haven't had time to talk to her. Tomorrow maybe. I also failed at getting out to walk with the return of my hip pain.
