Photos Of Tampere + Go Club in Lahti
We drove home from Tampere today. Before leaving I dropped by Hervanta, a large southern suburb of Tampere. I spent most of my childhood, youth and young adulthood there. In fact, I think I was 38 when I moved to another suburb close to Hervanta. Hervanta, too, is changing constantly. Hervanta has been, is, and will continue to be affected by the tramway construction.
If you want to know more about the tramway construction project, click here.
I will first show a few pictures taken in the city centre late yesterday evening. My daughter was bit in the foot by a bug and she had an allergic reaction to it. I had to drive to the centre to get medicine for her.
Hämeenkatu, the main street
Tramway tracks are being laid.
Palander House in the southwest corner of the central market square, Keskustori
Hallituskatu. The building at the end of the street is TAKO, a board mill. High quality paperboard for packaging is made there. Its location is logistically bad but when I visited it at university with a group of students, the manager told us that it would be too expensive to shut down production for the time it would take to move the machines to another location.
A view towards the north along Aleksis Kiven katu. The larger size version of this looks better. (Click the image.)
The next pictures were taken in Hervanta today afternoon.
Trackway tracks are being laid.
A view towards the north at the crossing of Insinöörinkatu and Orivedenkatu. The tracklaying causes major disruption to traffic.
Yet another construction site in Hervanta. Those blocks of flats represent typical 2010's architecture in Finland. The bright colours have been fashionable for the last 5-10 years.
After unpacking our luggage, I drove to Lahti Harbour for the go club meeting. It was a hot day. The daily maximum was about 29 C both in Lahti and Tampere. It was quite windy but not cold at all. The sky looked interesting. There will be a triathlon race in Lahti on Saturday. The competition centre is at the harbour.
Thank you clouds for cover.
Hot but cloudy.
I gave Jaro an eight-stone handicap in two games. This one is the one I lost.
The high wind kept the sky changing all the time. My drinks were in a plastic bag and after I had emptied them, the wind tried to make the bag fly away a couple of times.
It will be a half-triathlon with a 1.9 km swim first, then 90 km cycling and a 21.9 km run last.
The fences will guide the contestants to the start area.
The end of the line
Into the water here
This is probably the finish.
These are probably used to rescue drowners if there are any.
Those are probably for transporting goods. I think they will pick up stragglers by car.
Evolving patterns
I like the tramway project. In my opinion it will serve the city well in the future. Many disagree though...
Good friend Markku, I think I have traveled, to all those places, just to see the photos, how beautiful is your country. Blessed thanks for this great delivery that without saying much we saw enough ..
It’s incredible to know that you had a very hot day! Much hotter than my place in the northeast of Thailand.
You beat Jaro one game!! Haha!
Have a great day, this Saturday !
Cheers.
What's noteworthy about the 60th northern latitude is how radically different the weather can be depending on the season and random changes in the weather. The range of temperature that I have experienced living in the southern part of Finland is from +33 C to slightly under -30 C. It's +12 C now and the forecast afternoon maximum is +15 C.
Thank you! That’s very interesting!
Little ice-age is coming, more fluctuating changes can be expected! Wanna migrate!!?
Some rich people and politicians have already migrated!!
Hi markku. Very interesting seeing how the city is developing. Must be a nightmare for traffic as it will have to be diverted for now. Has @gamer00 been training for the triathlon?
I doubt very much he has. @omsoc is giving him a run for his money at the gym twice a week. He is too much of a spent force to train for endurance sports at this time, I believe. :D
All the photos are very good, I loved motocross, as for the game, I do not understand much, but it seems interesting.
