Pirate hunters

by @theironfelix

Boots calmly walked towards an open window-hatch, a bottle of rum is lowered down onto the sill. Upon the placement, the pirate places his scarred-induced hands on his wailing back and pushes.

“Argh! Me back be free of this wretched ache! Well, guess I learned a lesson: take a break when the Cap’n says so. Welp, time to rest...”

Taking his cue, the sill creaked in annoyance as the pirate’s body self-inquired the best resting position while perched on a sill. With a hairy arm supporting his night-colored beard, he spent his leisure-time mentally capturing the seas itself. There the familiar specs of white dots danced about the blue sky; he gasped before slowly releasing the captured air, he remembered how deep in the seven seas the ship was. With the mind returning to boredom, his eyes scanned under the blue sky.

“Ah poor ship, how these blue, blue, waves harass yah. I can hear yer wails, but I judge not. And even when the harassment be over, the aches only then take over; yet only can I respond with ‘such is life’... Huh, what be a ship in these waters be doing here? Where’s me spotting scope!”

The boots thus began a chaotic dance recital; the arms took the center stage as it flailed around to uncover the hidden telescope. As the telescope may have enjoyed the scene, it soon squeaked loud upon the firm clasp on its metallic skin. The pirate returned to the window-hatch and his arms stretched the telescope wide-wards. Eyeing in on the odd element, his eyes darted around to find any friendly symbol but soon froze.

“Oh me Flyin’ Dutchman! We’ve been tracked! Hey ho! Sound the alarm, pirate hunters come and in full-mast they set sail towards us!”

Whatever wail the ship can ever muster, the cacophonies of a hundred bodies darting around alone had easily drowned out such sorrows. The pirate unsheathed his sword, the sun’s naïve light touched and bounced off the sword. Sheathing his sword, he unholstered his flintlocks and his arms helped his eyes scan such. Cocking and holstering them, his body emerged from his room and joined in the traffic of the workplace as pirate bodies shuffled and kicked around to ready on their position. Albeit the humidity would’ve granted a hasty rest through stroke, the adrenalin surging about the bodies had protected them from unwanted advances of humidity.

Finally getting to the deck, he about-faced and attempted advancing towards the Captain’s spot. However, the Captain echoed:

“Brace!”

And the pirate mass dropped dead and clung hard to any support they could find; as soon the ship screeched thanks the holes formed from the steel cannon-shots who mercilessly ripped through her. With that, the pirate mass resumed its circuitry and soon he met with the Captain; he screamed:

“Madame! I’m here, let me take over the steering and yah the commandin’!”

“Finally yer here, Wither! Please, they be gainin’ too much ground. So steer us towards our enemy! And when we get close, steer us parallel to their starboard side and avoid portside! Today, I must accept my bounty and let them hath none of it!”

“Cap’n oh Cap’n! Are yah mad?”

“Mad? No! Blimey, avoid their hull Wither!”

My Ending

Wither looked on as the Captain made his way down to tell the a few men some words. They ran below and the Captain we back to give more commands to others. Wither look at the oncoming ship and wondered if today would be his last on the sea. Yet Madame had pulled of very clever moves before. He knew that ship didn’t have the cannon fire on the starboard side to sink them fast. He hopped to board as the fire they would take could cost them the ship. Wither focused on the winds and the currents he had to stay on the starboard side.

“Brace!” yelled the look out. Again panks screeched as the broke and below he could here someone short water aboard. Wither saw the two meen from before come up with bags that look to full of the Captain’s coins and gems. What plan does that mind have today? I hope I live to see it. He saw the Captain head back to him as the men loaded the coins into a few of the cannons.

“Wither this old girl has taken too many shots. We will take that boat and crossbones will be hanging from it’s mast tonight. Get us close as you can and then turn into them our men will be ready to act get us connected and then join the fight if there are any let for ya.” said the Captian as he went back down.”

Wither focused he new the other ship would try to avoid contact and took the course that predicted their move. He had had them and he knew tit the would know it soon. On more blast of cannon fire rang out and more wood screamed as it shattered but it was too late. They would meet. As they came close he took cover wit this flintlocks out and watched as the men worked.

“Hooks and then fire the gold and then we board you above prepare to swing.” yelled the Captain

Wither could see the plan now he knew that not all dutchmen were true pirate hunters. Some had be forced on that ship and might not fight if they could fill their pockets with gold. The hooks shot out and landed pulling the ships into each other on sea. They became on and the cannons fired aimed up the gold rained down into the dutchman's boat. He could hear shouts of “Gold” before he heard the screams of battle. The first pirates swang on board from the sails a few landed in bad spots but enough go there to spread the word drop you weapon take the gold and you can keep it. Wither scanned the ship and there he took aim and dropped the rifleman in the back. He could see the Captain crossing fire both his flintlocks and then pulling out his sword. That man was as deadly as they came. It wasn’t log before Wither joined them on the other ship and saw the battle was indeed over.

“Wither never forget what is in the hearts of most men” said the Captain as he filled a gold coin in the air

Indeed he thought gold is better than death to a young man. He had learned that years ago himself with his ship had fallen to this crew. The Captain had lost his wheelman in that fight and gave Wither a chance to fill the roll. His still had earned him the job and all these years later he didn’t regret that move. He had thought honor was important but a full belly and a full purse had proven to have a greater appeal.

“WE ARE MEMBERS OF THE…..” tries to say the Captain of the dutchmen but his head was no longer on his shoulders before he could finish. The same fate went to all the offices they could never be trusted to be Pirates. But some of the rest would have the chance he had to prove themselves. Most would runaway at the first port they reach but always a few would stay and when they see how we enjoy ourselves they join right in.

“Get that flag down and start to make this place look like home my boys! Yelled the captain

All the mean darted into action the would be moving again before night fall. Wither headed to the wheel to get a feel for his new post. He was sure of it now he had become a pirate and truly he liked it.

Excellent story, very entertaining. regards

Albeit that there are words that needs to be cleaned up, I definitely could read and enjoy this work. (I like to think that secretly that the pirate wrote the entry, trying to mimic our accents and submitted it through your account.) Anyways, I like how yah utilized gold to trick the pirate hunters as to show how experienced the lass Cap’n is. Regardless that they seized the new ship as the old one was battered to all Heck, so good on them to not waste a shot on the pirate hunters’ ship.

Regardless, I like how Wither was concerned and confused about the whole arrangement ‘til he truly saw it action. Also the fact that the Madame Cap’n is truly a pirate’s Cap’n and not some tipsy, no good Cap’n. Reminds me a bit of Salleri from Mafia (Video Game), a person that could take care of their own members and cares a whole lot for what they built up.

But that’s enough utterings from this tipsy lad. Upvot’d and resteem’d.

This is entertaining and picaresque in the purest pirate tradition. I agree with @theironfelix, you could fix some verbs (past perfect/present tense), quoted texts and polishing here and there. Proof-reading will make it brilliant 😉

Ya I am sorry guys I am trying to make sure I do that more often cause I write too often late at night. But I am glad you like the just of the story.

We love you being part of this! Don't worry.. I know how it feels to write late at night 😉

You're the second person I've read that missed the captain is a woman. 8-)

I liked the gold idea. Not very smart pirates if all they think of is gold when being attacked by another crew. I guess you gotta take recruits where you can find 'em.

Yes I did miss that. Madame I took as a name but looked it up now so I shouldn't do that again.

When I read "fire the gold" I was wondering if it was some pirate slang meaning something, but after, I understood. I like your story and the tossing gold for bribing/hiring new pirates amongst the reluctant hunters crew! Nice!

Great story and it was mighty clever of the captain to fire gold as a distraction! ( I wonder if the pirates scrubbing the deck after the battle were able to pocket a few of the coins?)
