Hello From The Children of Planet Earth...

September 2104 (Present day)...

The inner walls of the old cathedral were still very thick, despite the obvious signs of its age. Behind the old altar, a door opened to a flight of stairs leading down into what looked like a dark basement.

Victor shook his head vehemently.

"No Mike, not happening."

"C'mon man, it would be good fun."

"Yeah, for you." Victor protested. "Being around these archaic stuffs gives me goose bumps."

"But then you've never really given it a chance..." Mike argued. "This is the first time you've even agreed to come with me."

Victor remained unmoved.

"C'mon man, it's been exciting so far yeah?"

Victor bent his head sideways. Mike knew this was his tell for being uncertain about a decision, and he quickly took the chance.

"If it didn't hurt to come this far, why stop half way?"

Finally, Victor exhaled in agreement.

"I will come with you, but this is the last time I ever give an audience to any more of your crazy ideas."

Mike smiled. He knew he'd get Mike to come all the way, he knew it since when they both entered the doors of the ancient cathedral now turned museum together.

The cathedral had been a popular place only a few decades back. But no one came into its walls these days anymore. Somehow, it seemed like within the last few decades, the history here had given all it could give, and nothing within these old worn out walls mattered anymore to the tech-crazy people out there. This ancient world it seemed, had died a slow, yet somehow sudden death.

"Mike, I don't think this is a good idea."

Standing at the bottom of the stairs, both figures stared ahead at a dark passage which as far as they could see, curved in an arc and disappeared a few ways ahead of them.

Mike reached into his mini backpack.

"I think I've got a flashlight somewhere."

Victor stood in silence, inwardly hoping Mike had somehow forgot to bring his flashlight along.

"Voila" Mike stood in triumph as the bright beams pierced the dark passage ahead of them.

They both trudged ahead, Mike a couple feet ahead. The body language of both figures indicating the obvious difference in their emotional states.

Mike had always been curious since he was a little child. From the history books he had legitimately read, to the times when he had hacked into the city archives to read parchments from that old supposed sacred book, the Bible. All of those experiences had simply served to feed his growing hunger to understand the pre-advanced age of humanity.

And this was his biggest and most important outing yet.

"Victor, look..."

A lone door stood at the end of the passage way, slightly ajar. Cobwebs littered almost everywhere around it, except its handle.

Victor put a hand on Mike's shoulder, his plea to return more physical than vocal.

In Mike's head, he knew he would never get another chance. This was the one time he could see whatever lay behind this door before the authorities decide to turn the whole place into computerized data. He ignored Victor's unspoken words and pushed open the door, stepping inside in the process.

He first noticed the old LCD television, before the dusty turn tables. Then he saw the discs, the famous Golden Records that were supposedly lost in space. But before his excitement could climax, he saw them...

The bones... They littered around the small room, almost everywhere and nowhere at the same time. Obvious and inconspicuous.

"Some think it tastes like Pork, or Chicken..."

17 year old Mike spun around to see Victor transform before his eyes. His 26 year old ancient history instructor and friend suddenly turned into a horrible looking, yet certainly young alien creature.

"But really, it's more like beef."

Before the screams could leave his throat, that archaic weapon of pre-advanced man, that crude looking object they called the axe. It sent his head flying off his shoulder.

Later that night when Victor had had his fill of that required calories which only human flesh could provide, he reflected on the day he had found those two strange objects. The manna that had saved him, him who had been the very last of his kind. Now it was only a matter of time, they would be legion again. His race would rise again.

He pressed a button, and the TV came alive with the face of a little boy...

His sweet little voice rang across the long dark passage way of the old cathedral's basement...

"Hello from the children of planet Earth..."

THE END

Nice Job. 👍

That turned dark and fast! I have to say that I didn't see that ending coming, even with the foreshadowing of Victor's need to feed his intellectual hunger.

"If it didn't hurt to come this far, why stop half way?"

I'd probably be snarky and reply, "Because I know that half is safe.

Poor Mike, he really should have turned back.

Yeah... That could have been a really smart reply.

I have to say that I didn't see that ending coming,

Lol. I wanted it to seem as if Mike was leading Victor, when it was really the other way around.

Thanks for your comment.

that archaic weapon of pre-advanced man, that crude looking object they called the axe. It sent his head flying off his shoulder.

Someone got creative with the things they were watching on the screen. lol

The dynamic that grows between these two characters work so well, the well you build this relationship, where it seems like one is very much leading the other, then, as the story slowly unfolds, it becomes obvious that the lamb had led the wolf. Or has it... On a second read through, Victor almost had a moments doubt, about this student, with his drive and hunger, he can't resist the need to eat, but he lets his victims come willingly, and for a moment, it seems like he hopes Mike will turn back. Your skills for this mystery and story telling on many levels never fails, beautifully done <3

The results and next round are out, and I veyr much hope you'll be back with another <3
