Short Story: A Sea Of Scarlet (English & Greek Versions)

in #fiction7 years ago (edited)

Hello steemians! Today I wanted to give you something different from my usual posts. No educational content, no funny presentations of weird phenomena. This post is a short story I wrote back in high school. The original text was in Greek, so I translated it ιn English. I don't know how many of you it will appeal to, but I'd be happy to get some comments and feedback :)

Translated english version:

A Sea Of Scarlet

He has always loved swimming. The sea made him feel free, being one with the waves he adored was his little getaway. His mother said he was born on a ship. Maybe it was this first encounter with the water that got him addicted to the "blue drug".

The sun was so hot on that day, even hotter than it had been the days before. It was late July and the indicator on the thermometer could almost kiss 42 degrees Celsius. He left house at 10 o'clock, as he would do every day, he had to get his daily "fix". He jumped on his motorcycle and turned the engine on.

He was wearing blue jeans and a scarlet sleeveless T-shirt. He could not bear his helmet on a scorching hot day like this so he preferred to leave home wearing only his sunglasses. As he was driving along the coastal road, he could feel the wind caressing his body. It would get through his clothes and give him the illusion of flying. His motorcycle was his second great love after the sea for that reason.

His daily getaway was getting closer and closer. But life had other plans on that day. He had driven this road numerous times before, as many as the times he could "steal" some time to visit his "lover", another nickname he had given to the sea.

This time was different. Suddenly, on a curve of the road he knew so well that flying feeling changed. The wind was now falling on him very awkwardly and his body had already started sinking in a sea so different from the one he loved. It was a sea that hadn't always been there. It was a sea of scarlet.

Unfortunately the story does not have a happy ending, the sea of scarlet is a metaphor; for the rider had a fatal accident and I wanted to give him an ending more poetic than died in a pool of blood :(
