Thick, full-blooded cologne swept through the crowded bodies and graced Jenny's nose. Perhaps 'graced' was too kind a word; it ravaged her nostrils, sent her olfactories aflame, and she gagged as the odour flew down her throat and pulled at her stomach, as it took hold of her intestines and twisted them together.
It was strong. Too strong. Military strong. Was this their new tactic? Overwhelm the enemy with intensified odours?
The bodies at her back pushed up against barred windows and doors, their groans and wheezes as thick and heavy as the god-damned scent. One of them, however, was unperturbed. The balding man with one impossibly long strand of hair in the middle of his forehead sent her a wink as he watched her suffer.
He was the culprit.
"It ain't me, lass," he called out to her through the groaning masses, an obnoxious sneer painted across his chubby cheeks. "I can't smell a damned thing."
"You don't need to smell a damned thing to be the damned cause!" she shouted back.
A hundred burning eyes whipped around and glared at the man. A hundred feet simultaneously stepped towards him. Beads of sweat glimmered atop his hairless scalp.
The pack descended.

Turns out I'm rubbish at working out timezones and things - Half Past the Moonfall is still available for FREE on Smashwords! Grab it while you can and don't forget to leave a review. Whether you believe it to be the worst thing you've ever read and deliver it a 1 star, or think it's amazing and give it a 5. So-so and a 3 is more likely. ;)
I've also just joined twitter! Well, I suppose "joined" isn't exactly accurate. I joined Twitter in 2013 and then never logged in again. :D Until now. I've followed a bunch of Steemians... I'm not sure if that's proper etiquette or not. Apologies if not. Eep. But you can find me at https://twitter.com/kaelci ~ I have no idea what I'm doing, the whole twitter/tweet thing is beyond me, and so I'm just writing a couple of things and pressing the loveheart button on a bunch of stuff. A good start, I guess? :D
I feel like a little old lady learning how to use technology for the first time.
Anyway ~ thanks for stopping by, having a read, and hopefully enjoying my teeny five-minutes of writing! :)
