Journeys Prologue p3

After an uneventful ride through the countryside, the man and his wife arrived in the city of Crossroads. Upon entering the city gates, Rale drove down the muddy street until he found a not too busy barn where he could leave the wagon. He gave the young man there a piece of silver to watch over the wagon and then helped his wife from the wagon and stepped out of the barn and onto the hardwood planks that made up the walkway.
"If memory serves, the church should be down this way." He whispered to his wife as he slipped an arm around her waist and led the way toward the center of town.
His wife smiled and teased him. "If you'd come to church more often, you would know where it is."
He shook his head slightly and gazed at his wife. "You know that the good father and I don't get along so well. I find it better for you if I try not to make him mad."
If truth be known, Rale knew that the Priest wasn't a bad person, it was just scriptural differences that they didn't agree upon. Rale was a free thinker, while the Priest literally believed that his Deity had written the holy book.

Instead of answering, Mary pointed her chin towards the building in question. "There it is, husband. Now, behave." She playfully teased him.

"I make no promises, woman." He grumbled as he helped her across the street and carefully guided her up the stairs to the front door.

They paused at the doorway for a brief second, and she waited as he pushed open the massive oaken door, before stepping inside the building that devoted to the All Father.

The sun shining through the painted glass windows sent small rainbows across the inside of the building.

"Father Altin. Be ye here?" He softly called out as he and Mary looked around for the priest.
