The Home Away From Home - A brief writing exercise using mostly narrative and no descriptive words.
John hadn't expected to find the hole underneath the tree in his backyard.
The staircase must have gone down about 1000 feet.
It's a good thing he had brought that candle with him.
It seemed to John that this hole must have been created by people. Animals couldn't have dug it. It was too clean.
The surprise came upon arriving at the bottom.

There was a room with a table and a box on top.
An object lay above the box.
Not knowing what it was, John reached out and squeezed and found himself transported away.
He was in another hole but the air seemed a bit different.
Had the inside of this stairway been this color?
He walked up the steps but it seemed more like 400 feet this time around.
He arrived at the top and looked out at the horizon.
Two suns shone down on him.
The grass was a different color.
The birds went womp womp womp.
A rhinoceros struck him in the head as it flew by.
"Damn." John thought. "This is some good shit."
He took another drag of the cigarette he had found in his dad's office and laid back down on the recliner.
This is almost pure narrative. If any descriptive words have been used, they were a mistake. I will rewrite this tomorrow in a descriptive fashion. If you want to try this exercise feel free.
You would like to look at some of Sergej Lukianenkos works. I never realized it until you wrote this but one of the reasons why I appreciate him so much is because he is good at doing this kind of narrative description.
I'll have to check his stuff out.
I wrote posts on two of his works here on Steemit, so you can look those up if you want to have a general idea about what kind of stories he tells.
But really, the thing that set's him apart is his style. Also the fact that he is russian, which is interesting because with most people around here being Europeans, Asians or Americans, not a lot of people can actually relate to the russian lifestyle, so it really helps broaden the horizon a bit.
