Project Proxy (An Original Techno-Thriller) Chapter 14
CHAPTER FOURTEEN
"All three of them are going out."
Danny watched Rupert and his family leave the house that Sunday. He was sitting in his car, parked a couple of houses away from Rupert's. He observed them using binoculars, and wasn't worried about someone seeing him do it because all his car's windows were tinted.
She is locking the door, which means that there is no one left in the house.
He patiently waited until their car was out of sight, plus a couple of extra minutes. Ten minutes passed without any sign of movement inside the house.
Danny then took the wireless surveillance cameras Jake had sent to him and put them in his jacket's pocket. The cameras were the smallest he had ever seen and difficult to spot when placed in a room.
This is some high quality stuff. Jake must have paid a fortune for these.
He got out of his car and casually walked towards the Blake's house, occasionally checking the houses around him for any probing eyes. He arrived at their house and went to the back.
At the back, he stood by the door and took out a bunch of universal keys Jake had also sent to him that morning. He tried four different keys from the bunch before the fifth one unlocked the door. He took note of the key and then went inside the house.
I'm sure glad they don't have an alarm system installed here.
He wasted no time in installing the cameras. He placed cameras in the kitchen, lounge, dining room, bedrooms, bathrooms, toilets and passageways. They were all placed in strategic positions that allowed for a good view of the spaces, without increasing the chance of the camera being spotted.
He took extra care in making sure that he left no traces of his visit. He even wore gloves, to avoid leaving any fingerprints. All furniture was in place and he made no noticeable marks on the walls or ceilings of the rooms.
Installing all the cameras took him less than ten minutes. After which, he placed devices in the house that intercepted radio frequencies, so that he could intercept their phone calls. He then tested all the cameras using the smartphone, as they were configured to transmit footage to LINK's network.
All of them seemed to work perfectly and so he decided to evacuate the house.
Danny left the house using the same door he used to get in, and locked it once he was outside. Standing outside the house, he looked around to see if anyone was watching him. He saw no one and so he proceeded to walk out of the yard and onto the street.
He nonchalantly walked back to his car and entered it, and then sat inside evaluating his recent mission.
That went well. I installed the cameras without much challenge and I managed to install the frequency interceptors successfully too. I should get out of here before the neighbors, or the Blakes themselves, notice me.
With that thought, Danny started his car and drove to his apartment.
...
Jake was in his spar room, receiving a full body massage from one of his female employees, when his phone rang.
"Would you hand me my phone, Cecilia."
"Okay."
She stopped rubbing his back. She walked to a small stool, took his phone and then walked back and handed it to him.
"Thank you," Jake said.
He read the caller ID before answering it.
"Danny. This better be good news," he said.
He waved his hand, telling Cecilia to continue the massage, and she resumed rubbing his back.
"I've successfully finished my first task," Danny said.
"What? Already? I must say, you've been quite efficient. I wasn't expecting you to be done this soon. The sooner the better though. Anyway, I'll send you an email in about an hour, detailing your next task and the location of your first pickup."
"Okay," Danny said, ending the call.
...
Coming back from their outing, Rupert and his family entered the house without noticing anything unusual.
"I had fun today, honey," Sylvia said, as they walked into the house.
"Yeah, me too," Rupert said.
"What about you Jane. Did you have fun?"
"Yes. And the food was great too!"
Rupert and Sylvia laughed at Jane's last remark.
"I knew you enjoyed that chicken. I've never seen you eat so much in one sitting," Sylvia added.
Without wasting any more time, Rupert went to his laptop and worked on the review. Jane went to her room and Sylvia cooked dinner.
