The hospital room- PART 5 - An original short story by Giantbear

Sarah lay back quietly and numerous thoughts rushed through her head. She felt cold and tired. Her throat was still burning and she wished someone would just give her something to drink.  She had only a little bit of hope to escape.  She had no idea where she was, or what was going to happen. She had no idea what time it was or if it was day or night time.  There was nothing now that she could do except wait.

Her headache slightly returned and she closed her eyes. The lights were still shining brightly and she wished that someone would just switch off the lights.  She must have dozed off for a while but woke up when she heard the sliding door open.  Panic struck and she felt her heart beating in her throat. After about a minute she heard the door open again and miraculously the lights went off.

It was silent.  She lay still for a while and then when her eyes adjusted to the darkness she sat up straight. She looked around her and everything looked so clinically clean. She felt a little bit better and her throat was not hurting so much. All she needed to find now was something to drink, and some sort of weapon. She was not going to let them do to her whatever they wanted. Even if it cost her her life, she was going to fight whatever was coming. She doubt that anything would happen while the lights were switched off but she had to be prepared.

She slowly climbed off the bed and when she found her balance she started moving towards the middle of the room. She found a table with all kinds of instruments.  She picked the sharpest instrument and slowly made her way back to her bed.  She didn't want to make any noise to disturb anyone or anything, and climbed back on her bed. She hid the instrument under her gown and closed her eyes. She had to get some rest and build up her strength so she could be ready. She fell asleep more easily knowing that she had some kind of protection.

She woke up a few hours later feeling stiff and sore. She could have sworn she heard someone calling her name. She sat up straight and looked around. She immediately searched for her weapon and was relieved that it was still there. It was still dark in the room, but she could hear a faint whisper of someone calling her name. It took a minute or so, but then she saw someone standing at the door.

"Come on Sarah, we have to go now. This is the only chance that we have."

Sarah had no idea if she could trust this creature, but this was her only hope. She quickly made her way towards the door and the creature handed her some sort of mask to put over her face.

"Make sure you cover your nose and mouth. We need to move quickly. We have very little time. Make sure you stay with me and whatever happens just keep moving."

Sara put the mask on as quickly as she could. She had to put her trust in this total stranger but she had no other choice. She clenched her weapon in her right hand and followed the creature as soon as the sliding door opened.

They moved quickly and she was quite out of breath, but she couldn't fall behind.  She felt the adrenaline pumping and her heart was racing but she was finally on her way to freedom.
