"Q" Chapter 21
Computer Simulation

Roy was running yet ANOTHER Computer Simulation while wearing headphones and listening to music. Patty was asleep. He didn’t want to bother her.
“NO...that’s not right” he heard a voice say "This is what you want.”
He watched in amazement as the parameters of his model were tweaked...some of em...just a few.
“Damn.” he said "Why didn’t I think of that. Hey! Who said that?”
It would be years before he found out who it was.
A few hours later, after he’d run many more simulations. Patty woke up, watched a while then said. "Seems to work?”
“Yup...They all support the hypothesis.” Roy said, not not mentioning ‘the voice’. He didn’t want Patty to think he was crazy. In fact he’d almost convinced himself that he had imagined hearing it.
Almost.
"Now it’s time for part two.” he replied to Patty "Which might get a little bit pricy.“
“Hardware” Patty shrugged "Life savings and all that. Spend it. We can make more if need be.”
She was positively drooling.
“I like your attitude.” he said. "_it turns out that the cities we perform at for the next several weeks all have "Rent-a-Shop” franchises. Don’t let the name fool you. It should be called Rent-a-Lab because the equipment is laboratory quality”.
“They’re probably trying to stay under the DEA radar.” Patty said.
“That’s the thing, it’s not that kind of lab at all. They’re a combination of Optics, MicroMachining, and Precise fabrication of all types. Each franchise has a zillion bux of high tech equipment that they will rent time on to certified operators.”
“Which we just happen to be.” Patty nodded.
“Yup...time to bend some metal.” Roy agreed.
For the next several many weeks. They did that....
“Ok...fire in the hole” Roy said for about the hundredth time.
BOOM
“Let’s check it out. Be vewy, vewy careful, it’s sharper than any known razor.” he warned.
They placed their test results in various and sundry apparatus and tested it to destruction, or attempted to. They couldn’t.
“By George I think we got it” Sally said.’
“Good thing too,” Roy was relived "We’re almost out of money.”
